"on my way" means I finally stopped watching YT shorts and just turned on the shower. 😅

I've found that telling someone I'm "leaving now" is a great way to stop doing stuff that isn't getting ready to leave. I usually wind up leaving within 5-10 minutes of that.

Almost there means i'm almost halfway there, usually under 25 minutes. 45 minutes means probably 55 minutes because I didn't factor in parking/walking/stairs etc. I'm on my way means I'm almost out the door, or just walked out the door, but will probably realize I forgot something and have to go back into the house 1-3 times. Lol

Both adhd people and neurotypicals include the preparation of leaving in their definition of leaving. It's just that for one group this takes a negligible 5 minutes while for the other group's prep is half the journey.

I'm the completely stressed ADHDer who texts: " I'm sorry, I'm late" then shows up 1-3 minutes later or even makes it on time.
I just hate to be late. Usually I'm there before everyone because I calculated a lot of additional time, in case anything doesn't go as planned.somezimes, I wait around the corner because I don't want to be too early too

“I’m on the way” means that your call/text is what woke me up.

I text “I’m leaving now” and then spend the next 5 or 10 minutes running back inside to grab the thing I forgot 😂

I had a partner who struggled with me because he felt my being late was a constant sign of disrespect towards him and his time. It took years to finally find a middle ground.
Giving a window of arrival instead of a hard time helped give me flexibility. Always being honest about my estimate and communicating openly, even if I was running late, helped him plan around me instead of "waiting around" for me.

"i'll be out/down/there in a minute" means i'm running around like a chicken with its head cut off trying to find my glasses with my shirt half on my head and my jeans buttoned but unzipped 💀

That's the one thing I won't do. Say I am nearly there when I'm not. Everyone here does it and it grinds my gears to no end

it's the complete opposite for me, i will get ready hours before hand and just sit, wait and do nothing until it's time to meet up - idk tho if that's a symptom of adhd or anxiety. OR i'll try to convince myself i do want to go out but make absolutely no move or effort to get ready and wait until the last minute to admit to myself that actually no i don't want to go and then bail, albiet very regretfully and apologetically, and my friends are almost always understanding. this i know for sure tho is a symptom of depression lol

I have ADHD. If I plan on meeting someone, I’ll share my location for an hour. Doing so creates a sense of accountability in being punctual. I also won’t have to constantly text updates of my location/ETA :D distraction free driving!

im too scared to say “im almost there” until i’m literally 5 seconds away from arriving so that people don’t think i’m a liar 😭

I'll literally be pretty much ready and get distracted at the last few minutes. Then I'm late, and I'm scrambling to make sure I have everything on my checklist.

Accurate. My mom does this. She's always late to everything.. you tell her a time and she still shows up an hour later. Which is why I usually tell her to get there an hour before she actually needs to be there.

Those first two are too accurate. I literally said them over the last week

My anxiety effects my adhd in weird ways lol "I'm leaving now" =I was ready an hour before we scheduled and I've been sitting waiting for agreed time and now am leaving. "I'll be there in 45 minutes" =I'll think I'm leaving at a good time but I'll get there 20 minutes early and go somewhere else to stall for time so I'm exactly 5 minutes early or I'll awkwardly pace deciding if I'm too early 😅. "I'm almost there" = I can see their house but I'm too nervous to knock so I text them so I don't have to 😅.

Edit: I think it's a combination of how I was raised and anxiety. My family would be super ehhh intense about being on time so they'd be running around telling me to get ready and I'd still have to wait for them. I also still have an inability to be on time it's just in the opposite direction so I still have that fancy time blindness lol.

This is something I've worked enormously on. I hate being disrespectful about people's time. I always calculate more than twice the time to make sure all chaos can settle before deadline. If you're not respecting people's time, you need to change, no matter how much effort it requires from you.
