Temu Survival Kit - for under $20, it's not... horrible?

Ok, so I bought a $17 survival kit off Temu just for fun. It's low quality stuff, but better that if you don't have anything. It comes with shelter, light, navigation, fire, sharp things, and a fair amount of other stuff that doesn't really fit, but might be useful. Do I want to rely on it? No. Would it keep you alive in a pinch? Maybe...

The people that come up with these pocket survival kits never left their back yard. Go ahead.. venture out with this and let us all know how well it worked out.

The best thing about these kits is that they teach you what's garbage and what you actually need. Over 30 years as a survivalist and I always end up getting at least one of these kits for Christmas every year. Other than the box, the mylar, and whistle are about the only things that I would actually carry. The cheap ferro rod might ens up in one of my bags as a back up. The rest usually gets given away or tossed. The paracord holds less than 65 pounds amd the knife you have to heat to cut butter. At best, it's "better than nothing" gear.

Not horrible for the price. I'd gotten a similar kit branded as, I believe, "Antarctic", that contained several identical components, and later discovered that there's a dozen or more competing kits like this using seemingly random selections of shared Chinese-made components - mine included a folding knife and multi-tool and compass-carabiner as a couple of its star components, and had the same "tactical pen", "tactical flashlight", "tactical whistle", "tactical survival card", "tactical spork", mini-key-ring-screwdrivers set, hilarious wire saw, and paracord bracelet (there's a little ferro-rod, whistle, and compass built into the bracelet, but I can't imagine any of it works especially well!)

Mine also included a more complete fishing kit, I believe (it seemed to be a pretty standard off-the-shelf mini fishing kit, and I have a feeling yours had the same fishing kit but something went wrong in packaging it?), and a "first aid kit" consisting of a couple band-aids: kinda goofy, but what can you expect?

Mine didn't include the brass compass, water-bottle holder, or locking carabiners. That compass almost looks like serious business!

Given the price and infamously chintzy, novelty quality of Chinese-made low-budget survival stuff, I was almost impressed with the flashlight, pen (apparently a write-anywhere deal), multi-tool, ferro-rod, box, and folding knife: none of these items were as good as a serious Maglite, Leatherman, or Gerber equivalent, but seemed to me to be convincing enough to get the job done in a tough spot, and they didn't seem especially flimsy, as Chinese novelties go. I basically broke my kit down to those components and rebuilt it around them as a grab-and-go under-the-car-seat utility kit, adding in a mini socket set, write-anywhere notepad, and a couple other light-duty side-of-the-road emergency items that fit the box and seemed to be more appropriate for the purpose of a light-duty tool-and-gadget kit, to sit beside a proper first-aid kit under the car seat, with a proper car roadside tool-set in the trunk.

Most of the rest of the contents, like the paracord bracelet, wire saw, tactical survival card, space blanket, tactical spork, band-aids, and fishing kit, got chucked into the bag I use to store unused gimmicky survival gear, to be one day parted out for a garage sale or online auction or something, or in a couple cases - the fishing kit, spork, and screwdrivers - into my fishing tackle box, mini office tool box, or camping set, as appropriate. I've got a proper wool blanket in the car as an alternative to the space blanket, and the screwdrivers, for example, are kinda goofy, but take up little room, and can probably work nice at work for small office repairs, and I won't miss them if I lend them out and they go missing. The spork is an almost complete novelty, but goes nicely with my camping stove and mess kit to replace a KFC disposable spork I had been keeping in there. But, the saw, survival card, and bracelet are difficult to take seriously!

Out of your Temu kit, I'm going to say that the box, compass, flashlight, ferro-rod, and pen are the MVPs of the set, and the whistle, keychain screwdrivers, locking carabiners, paracord bundle, and a couple other items are fair enough as filler for the box. The hilariously lonely fishing grub, tactical spork, tactical survival card, space blanket, and bracelet are probably a mixture of out-of-place, or just plane junk, though! Still, the stars of the show and the filler almost look like they add up to a good bargain at that price, begging to be kit-bashed into a more serious survival kit.

yeah its not horrible. but the ppl who put this together had no clue what they are doing. the purpose of a survival kit is to pack the smallest amount of gear together. the paracord wristband is not bad at all. i have the same. the compass is working, the ferrorod also is able to make some fire and the whistle makes loud noise. so with the paracord wrist band, you can almost save half of the other items. the pocket saw is trash, the purpose of this survival cards i hav never found out and they missed a fishing line and hook, but added a fancy bait? well yeah, i have the strange feeling that most of the ready packed survival kits have never been put to the test before entering some dubious online shop.

I like the plastic sleeve to keep the ferrocerium dry.

I am making Altoids stationary EDC kit.
Please suggest -
1) Liquid glue which can be used repeatedly
2) Transparent tape which can be cut without scissors
3) Compact slim stapler

I gotta agree it’s not horrible but not good either some things are useful like the para chord the pen and screw drivers I wouldn’t trust the blades which probably not that sharp

The best way to get a good survival kit is to put it together yourself. If you don't know what to get ask someone who knows what they are doing.

Needs water purification I’d say add a aqua pure straw would fit easily and a collapsible cup to hold the water you could survive a night or 2 if you actually have it with you

It's horrible. The container isn't metal so no ability to boil/purify water. Just my humble opinion.
