These are 5 moves that I see used the most when players are changing directions. These moves are not listed in any particular order.
1. Cross Step Btl
I think this is a very controlled COD (C.hange O.f D.irection) move because it keeps your center of gravity low the whole time. You decelerate on the inside step (first step) and redirect on the outside step (second step).
2. Btb Drop
I refer to this as a drop because a lot of times players will just drop the ball behind their back and go find it after. This may be the quickest and most consistently effective COD move.
3. Crossover
The crossover is quick as well but it requires more force going into your outside leg. You also expose the ball more with this move. But if you are able to get the ball low enough and change directions early enough this is a nasty move.
4. Punch Change
This can be done with a btl, crossover, or btb. Although it is a slower COD, it allows you to make a read on whether you want to shoot it or change directions.
5. Spin Move
Another COD that is slightly slower but you keep the ball from your defender if you do it right. You need to keep the ball close to your body though, this Is in case help comes over when you’re turning.
