Is there a minimum IV for a Shadow Pokémon to be stronger than a Non-Shadow Pokémon in Pokémon Go? Well, today we take a look at a 0% Shadow Tyranitar against a 100% Non-Shadow Tyranitar to see which is stronger through a raid experiment.

Join me as I travel, eat and play Pokémon GO the way a local trainer would in their own country and city. Visiting one country and one city at at time through Pokémon GO.

Thumbs up for powering up a literal 0% shadow Tyranitar to lvl 50!!!

Even though I already knew this, to see it to this degree really is crazy. Also have to thank Brandon for using a lot of resources to give us top level content.

Real talk; how many youtubers out there would do this for us? Probably nobody 😆 We all know how difficult it is to collect XL candies and stardusts and he is willing to level up a pokemon to the max (50) that he will never ever use again. I really appreciate you doing this for us Brandon!

would have been nice in your testing to also show a 90-100% shadow vs the 0% shadow so we can see the importance of IV for shadow types. I suspect its not as big a difference as the normal vs shadow is, like instead of a 3 second increase maybe a 1 or 2 second?

Thanks for the experiment Brandon! This makes a lot of sense, I’ll be sure to hunt a lot more shadows now!

much respect man! powering up a worthless shadow for the community to prove to us why it is better. no wonder you grind so hard. thanks Brandon!

Well i really hate that shadow pokemon are so much stronger and purifying them is just pointless.

Kinda loses the point of "saving" them from corruption, so in essence, lore wise all of us are evil dicks, which allow suffering from pokemon to get some gains, but gains are just way too big to ignore.

Old video but people will come across it.

BrandonTan showed it in action but the math behind it is:

IV is a flat amount added to the pokemon’s base stats.

So let’s say a pokemon had 100 attack, 100 defense and 100 HP. A 100% 15/15/15 IV pokemon would have 115/115/115 stats.

and the obvious 0% IV with 0/0/0 would be 100/100/100.

Shadow pokemon get a 20% attack bonus and -20% defense. So a 0% shadow pokemon with those base stats would be 120/80/100 showing that the pokemon has more attack but a lot less defense.

This is gap is only if you powered up a 0% shadow. So imagine a 3-star with possibly 15/15/11 Like the Metagross we saw? Honestly if you get a max attack IV shadow it’s definitely worth it for max damage. Just keep in mind about the Defense debuff, and make sure to dodge otherwise they will faint faster.

This video is exactly what I needed to know! I was super disappointed because my shadow were such low IV and I don't have the time to grind Pokemon like other people. But now that I know I don't need them to be super high iv to make them worth powering up now I might finally build some good pokemon for raids!!! Thank you

A 0% shadow Pokémon is so incredibly rare

Now we need shadow 0% pokemon vs shadow 100% pokemon, that would be a good one.

This is an awesome comparisons and I was actually surprised. Everyone needs to keep in mind also is dodging. When using shadow Pokémon you want to always dodge the charge moves even if they’re resisted so you can survive to get off as many charge moves as possible. This is one reason I use dragon breath on my hundo shadow dragonite and dragon tail on my regular hundo dragonite. Dodging is key to maximize the damage boost.

Can you do another test for a low iv shadow Pokémon Vs a high iv shadow Pokémon?

Thanks for this experiment! It makes me feel better that I don’t NEED the highest iv’s for my shadow Pokemon to actually have pretty strong Pokemon!

That is amazing. I have to tell my son. He trades Shadow Pokemon to the professor if they have poor IV's. This proves him wrong. That's Brandon! :) :) :)
