Describing the Gods: Epithets, Domains, and Aspects

How do we talk about the Gods? What is a God's domain? What is an epithet? And why do these things matter?
NOTE OF CORRECTION: A Kemetic friend of mine, Celeri's garden, gave me info about Set as a lightning god and in my exhaustion I wrote down Anubis. I meant Set. Sorry about that.

This is why is feel super tired of hearing Aphrodite referred to as "goddess of love" because I know so many pagans who only see her in that one way, when she does SO MUCH more! And with Sekhmet as "goddess of healing" - I find that wild considering how healing only comes when she *withdraws* her dominant influence. I think it's a matter of reconciling the complex personhood of a deity rather than seeing them as an archetype that people can use for certain things...

I can see how the Devine masculine and feminine could be frustrating or eaven offensive if you identify as non binary or gender fluid. Especially if you would be drawn to wicca otherwise. Im not sure if adding a 3rd aspect is eaven helpful or not. It would likely be best to ignore gender associations all together. But I must admit my ignorance here as I do identify as cis male. So I'm only just spit-balling. Your take on this subject would be helpful in allowing me to be a better ally to thows who do identify as non binary or gender fluid. I would appreciate your insight on that if you are willing. Thank you.

Claiming that some divinity is the "god of ..." is usually rather counter-productive, since these areas they might be a "god of" often overlaps with other gods or powers, and it's practically never their only area, at least from a Norse perspective. Also sometimes people just plain get it wrong in popular culture (Loki and fire... ugh, yeah no).

You can also think of it like this: The Gods talk. Just as we consult our friends in times of needs, so might the Gods. If you pray to a God you are close to about a matter that might fall into the "aspect" of another God, the God hearing your prayers might go the God with greater domain and ask"How would you handle this? Asking for a friend"
