I have had 6 pairs of Merrell Moab 2 hiking shoes. I bought the last pair from Bass Pro online. The right shoe was too big around the top, no amount of messing with the laces would fix it. It bothered me but not enough to return them, they were still comfortable from the first wear, like every prion pair. I wore them daily. I was looking for another pair but looks like they’re phasing them out. I ended up recently buying a pair of Moab 3 and I’m not happy. They are lightweight, but the instep and insoles are not not sufficient. The soles are hard and inflexible. I feel like I’m walking flat foot. After very little walking my feet, legs and back ache. I walk 3 miles a day. I can’t wait to take them off. A first. I haven’t tossed my old Moab 2’s. Feel better than these new more expensive shoes. I will be looking for another hiking shoe, sad to say.

Other Merrell models have quality problems, too. I'm looking at alternatives. For hiking, I like Oboe.

I just purchased the moab 3 mid waterproof boots. I wore them twice hiking in the rain, and water definitely came through. Pretty sad, especially after reading all of the good reviews.

I've always worn Merrell shoes but my latest pair purchased from Amazon had sizing problems. I wear a size 11 and the pair I received from Amazon was too small. I could not even get them on. I returned them to Amazon and ordered a size 12. They arrived and would barely fit. I ended up wearing them for a while and then through them away. I have also experienced another pair that had little to no support and could not be worn for extended periods. Now I'm looking for a better brand. I think I will try Keen.

I bought a pair of these in 2023, same issue with the soles after very little use, and the degradation just kept getting worse. I ended up getting them replaced with a new pair of the same, thinking it must have been a batch problem. My new pair have just started showing the same problem 😕

Yes, I had to send back 3
Shoes from them because
They are so uncomfortable. I do have 3
Shoes from years ago that I still wear.

Moab 3 Edge Wide Width; just tried to leave a review for these on the Merrell site, in response to an email they sent asking for a review. Funny, I bought another different pair of boots I just reviewed BEFORE I bought my Moabs, but they did not allow me to post my Moab review due to expiration (hmmm)...only purchased in Feb, but they allowed me to post for the other boot. Fact is, the Moabs are DANGEROUS!!! Not only because of the terrible laces that do not tighten due to the lace material and come undone constantly, but the Vibram (?) sole HAS NO GRIP under damp conditions. I bought my Moabs specifically for a trip to the UK and "Vibram sole", and held on for my life while walking the ramparts around Conway Castle when others in sneakers had no issues. Worst boot I've ever purchased, and now have no confidence in both Merrell and this crappy dumb-down Vibram sole. Sorry Merrell, I was a 40 year fan...no more.

I have the MOAB 2 GTX Boot. Worst pair of hiking boots I have ever owned. Small, rubbing fit, grey part of the Vibram sole has worn smooth after 200 Miles, ride is way too firm, no shock absorption at all, Merrell lettering has fallen off on the Midsole, the inner heel lugs are way too hard and prominent and can be intrusively felt whilst walking. The boots are barely waterproof after 2 hours in damp conditions.

Almost forgot, the soles have very little grip in all conditions and have let me down/scared me many times where even my cheapest shoes just grip and carry on.

A massive disappointment. The only positive I have is that they fit like a glove from first use., requiring zero break-in.

I'm ditching merrells after this pair of gortex moab 3s i just bought. They feel fine but the dang noise they make while walking is ridiculous.

google says the 3 sole is better. I also have had about 10 pairs of the moab 2 and I just bought the 3 to see if the sole will last longer. Have not received them yet. It could be a fluke that the knob broke off or bad rubber. I would be interested in knowing how the sole lasts. I work with these shoes.

As a shoe salesman friend once told me, if you want to buy any shoes be sure its made in vietnam. The chinese ones easily tear apart. It has something to do with the glue they used or they just cut corners. He has alot of returns from them. So if you have them, have them restitched and reglued before a long hike.

Show more of the shoe you are taking about and less you. You just gave some glimpses of them so this video was ineffective

I have another version of a Merrell hiking shoe (it's old). The shoe is perfect after almost 15 years as I only wore them a few times a year, but the sole has turned hard as a rock and is slippery as hell. Unwearable. I have other Merrells that are as old and the soles are still pliable, albeit worn down of course. Different factories produce different grades of quality over the years. Merrells are cheaper when on sale, compared to other brands, so you can afford to replace them more frequently I guess.
