Update: I got my usb C to display port cable. I can get a second monitor to work only in the extra thunderbolt port on the back of the dock. So I can do dual monitors but then to get my thunderbolt to 10gbps ethernet cable, I need to plug that one into the laptop.

Please use black magic speed test… that such a nice program to test speeds, even works with network drives

For your dual monitor setup, if you use the DisplayPort to your monitor, most newer monitors support DisplayPort daisy-chaining for multiple monitors. Also, the USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 port on the back can be used to drive a display directly - if the monitor has that capability - like the new Apple Display.

Really interesting product, like you said a bit of a head scratcher to not have SSD module slots at launch

This is a dream for a DIT/Data Wrangler on set for sure!

Very valid point about that modular usage. It feels like the product hasn't reached its full potential. Like having 4 card readers makes zero sense to me

You can daisy chain TB3 monitors from monitor to monitor if you've got the correct ports on the monitor.

Finally, a high speed modular card reader. I'd want one to have multiple of the same especially CFexpress Type-B. Like 3 of them and 1 SD UHS-II.

Interesting. This seems to be a more solidly built version of the Lexar Professional range which also had various 'slots' for their card readers. I think Lexar has discontinued it but interesting to see how long SanDisk will stick with this.

I may have missed it in the other video but how did you end up seeing the Read/Write speed on your MacBook?

awesome that its thunderbolt but can only be as fast as slowest component wich is the USB c. better off going with the stand alone thunderbolt CFcard reader for 1/4 the price

I would love to see it as you described, where you can basically pop in an external drive that has an M.2 ssd. You could use it like raided storage, or just as a multi-enclosure. Cool stuff!

I do actually see the point.

Not that I'd need this dock (right now) but for someone who has dual or triple cams on events where footage is scattered around multiple cameras having more than one card reader (e.g. 2x CFexpress & 2x SD or any other combination) can be a huge advantage.

On the other hand though, I do understand your critique regarding the storage devices and the second HDMI port. This is an almost perfect dock for me.

But with these restrictions this could only be like a "secondary" dock or something or having a dongle for another HDMI/DP port.
And why not already using Thunderbolt 4?

It would be backwards compatible and would eliminate a couple of restrictions this device may have due to Thunderbolt 3.
But then again the next generation will most likely improve on the faults of the first gen!

Type C/thunderbolt monitor should work on the thunderbolt port on the dock.

Just thinking... with the tranfer rates and size of some of these cards, couldn't you just dedicate one or two of the bays with card readers that just hold CF express type b cards and use those as external storage? I'm not sure how they compare to internal ssd card transfer speeds so I'm not sure you'd want to work with those files directly in apps, but they'd work as external storage anyways...

It’s a revamped suped up version of the older Lexar Professional
Workflow system which was only USB 3 multi card reader which was and still is great. It was cheaper when released but this one does have other advantages.

Cool piece of equipment but for the weekend warrior photographer a little overkill, but still cool 👍😎👍

This card reader needs to get together with the Pro-Blade station and make a baby. SSD in this doc would be killer.

Hey Lee,

What is that app you are using to display the transfer speeds at the top of the window???

Thank you for the video. While I still use UHS-II and Type B CFexpress will Sandusky also offer support for Type A CFexpress tha Sony cameras are using? I know Sandisk does not have any Type A card offering yet. If your using these does this device get ruled out? Can you ask them?
