I grew up in LA and moved to Des Moines, IA for work. What a culture shock I went through. Bill Bur is correct about February. Grey sky’s all winter long with not much to do. Even worse for majority of Iowans outside the city

I lived in Davenport Iowa for three years going to chiropractic school and a winter storm rolled in and it was 57 degrees below zero. The newscaster said even if you could make it to a grocery store 100 yards away, do not do it because you can easily get disoriented and die. I grew up playing a lot of pond hockey on very cold nights in Massachusetts but this Iowa cold was a whole new level. Good Times!

It's true. After college, I got a job up in Ames Iowa which is just a little north of Des Moines. I was up there during the winter and it sucked. And even more depressing city is Omaha Nebraska. Drove through there and everything was gray and dull

With all due respect to all the bleak winter places in this country - Western Michigan is Very Beautiful most of the time
.. and possibly the Most bleak place there is in the winter. Living right next to Lake Michigan ensures that from mid Nov through Dec, Jan & Feb, it's cloudy almost every single day, even if it doesn't snow. The cold air going over warmer water makes clouds. Some years we literally have only 1 or 2 days out of 60 with sunshine.

Everyone in Iowa loves Iowa. Big but….You must vacation at least once throughout the snow period or you might blow your brains out.

“why do I live here” gets said multiple times each winter… and I know our muggy summers suck as well but man when it’s nice and perfect here, blue skies, birds chirping, you can hear a lawnmower down the street, maybe a house being worked on in the distance, slight breeze, and actually not terribly humid… those days just can’t be beat! 😁✌🏼

Never been to Iowa, but I grew up out on the plains of Colorado and it's got to be pretty similar in the winter. Even at noon it's nothing but different shades of gray.
