People always forget he lived 500 years ago. He was born while knights rode on horses fighting with swords. And he's out here designing helicopters

He truly was ahead of his time. I watched a documentary on him and it was pretty interesting.

Multiple things to note. First this would work maybe for shorter spans but longer spans will not work with this design. Second, this is a design particularly for compressive force. Modern bridges take in to account many more factors including seismic, wind, resonating frequency, etc.

This is the cantilever design. It efficiently distributes weight loads across its structure. The idea was used during ancient Roman times with arched bridges and today's spanned bridges.

Da vinci was a true artist. I believe everything that he did was in service of making the things he drew and painted reflect reality. He literally had corpses exhumed (illegally) to study anatomy.

Leonardo DaVinci was also a time traveling teaching engineer... He went back several thousand years and taught this bridge design to the Chinese and the Japanese.
