This is an excellent video of what a good AND bad diode ripple looks like. Most content creators or show what the good ripple looks like. Good on you for doing the extra work to show both.

Cool find! I have an issue on my 94 Lexus ES300. When I press on the brakes, my whole lighting systems dim. I live in remote area and it’s kind of spooky when this happens. I get this feeling I’m being abducted by aliens 👽 I guess I’ve seen to many X Files in my younger days 😬

So great short video, very simple to understand, problem I have is my 2006 CRV Honda is flickering all the lights flicker dash lights headlights they are Flickr, I have a cigarette lighter voltage reader and when I coast to stop the voltage goes down to 12.2 to 12.4 V, I will put it in neutral and the voltage read 14.2 to 14.4 V, then I drive off and the voltage goes up on the higher part of 14 boards sometimes 15 V sometimes 16 boards drops down to 13 V, it’s kind of all over the map. I have an auto friend of mine saying that I should just change out the alternator batteries in good shape battery is brand new. Do you have any ideas

From the time you start to notice flickering how long will the alternator take to fail completely and leave your ass stranded on the highway?

I replaced my alternator because it wasn't charging the battery at all. Now the new one is starting to do this.

Also remember the computer can make your lights flicker like that too I'm dealing with one now and they thought it was the alternator in there's. All you have to do is replace the body control module usually in the kick panel

I have that flicker on my car only when the battery is already very full and I have little to no load on the alternator.
When I have the fan on 4 it goes away completely.

Ripple = AC Sign Wave. AC voltage actually "flows" both directions with a pulsing action, unlike DC voltage which "flows" only one direction from negative straight to positive. 😎✌

I have to diagnose a 2007 dodge ram for someone that does this but has had 2 alternators replaced and it still does it, gonna be a fun one...hopefully it's just bad aftermarket alternators

Have a 2014 challenger. The original battery went dead and even after a jump the car wouldn't start. So I got a new battery.

But now when I turn on the car and I rev the engine my dash lights flicker. The ones that illuminate the instrument panel. The headlights show it also but not as bad and obvious.

Went to o'Reilly and they tested the battery and it came out good. Alternator tested by the battery tested good also. Voltage is around 14v.

Is it my alternator that needs to be replaced? It's been doing it for over 2 weeks now.

Please advise..
