I loved speaking with Dr. Adi Jaffe today about addiction, relationships, abstinence, and shame, as well as his book, The Abstinence Myth.

What I found most fascinating about our conversation today was Dr. Adi Jaffe’s different perspective on helping people with addiction. In turn, it was interesting to compare my own therapeutic approach to his. Why? I found Dr. Adi Jaffe to be so uniquely inclusive with his practices, specifically with the underlying emotional reasons for addiction.

I am really excited to have you listen and share your thoughts on this extremely interesting interview. So, let’s get started!

Hi. Look forward to reading the book, hope it gets translated soon into other languages. Just an FYI - I live in Europe and ordered your book for Kindle on Amazon yesterday (Sunday) but the download was defective - only one page of the book actually downloaded and upon opening the book it closed itself within about 10 seconds, so I returned it as Amazon allows that with the comment of problem with download. Problem hopefully will get fixed soon, so I can try to purchase it again.

I am almost at a loss for words…almost. It’s common sense that anyone seeking therapy should be treated with respect, non judgment, and feel supported. Regardless if they are dealing with addiction issues or not. The statistics he stated sound grossly inaccurate and understated to me. I welcome the opportunity to read them because they sound like bs.

This man is full of bs! I am so incredibly grateful that I am not in active addiction and seeking his help. *He says what addicts want to hear! Believing that an alcoholic can drink in moderation, cut down their drinking, and/or change from drinking hard liquor to drinking a different form of alcohol and their lives will be drastically better is ludicrous! Bullshit! It’s the same as saying that a crack addict can stop using crack and use weed instead and their life will be better!
A drug is a drug, period!
For this recovering addict who’s been clean for over fourteen years, if I take one drug it is too much. This is my life and it is life or death for me.

Anyone can stop using …anyone.
I feel the need to say this after watching this video because even if it helps just one addict who now inaccurately believes that they too can use and it will not kill just may continue using and it will kill them…eventually.

Terri, I am shocked that you agree with this man! I’ve been following you for many years, bought your book for myself and for loved ones and after watching this video I am extremely concerned.
Any addict can stop using and can live a life they never imagined was possible, without drugs. I’ve seen it hundreds and hundreds of times!
