✅Ingredients

• 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
•1 medium onion , diced
• 1 (7 ounce) can diced green chiles
• 2 tablespoons salted butter
• 2 tablespoons chili powder
• 1 tablespoon cumin
• 2 teaspoon salt
• 2 teaspoons garlic powder
• 1 (14.5 ounce) can black beans , rinsed and drained
• 1 (14.5 ounce) can canned pinto beans , rinsed and drained
• 2 cups salsa , jarred
• 4 cups corn chips
• 4 cups shredded cheddar cheese , divided

Garnish Options:
• 1 bunch cilantro, chopped
• 1 cup sour cream
• 2 limes wedges
• 1 cup lettuce, chopped
• 1 avocado, sliced
• 1 cup tomatoes, chopped or sliced
• 1 jalapeno, minced
• 1 bunch green onions, sliced
• 1 cup black olives, sliced

✅Instructions

1️⃣ Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 9x13 pan.

2️⃣ In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook onion in butter until softened and starting to brown a bit, about 3-5 minutes. Add in beef, green chiles, chili powder, cumin, salt, and garlic powder. Cook beef until browned, about 6-8 minutes.

3️⃣ Reduce heat to low and add pinto beans, black beans, and salsa into the beef mixture. Stir until combined and let cook for just a few minutes.

4️⃣ Line the bottom of a 9x13 dish with 4 cups of corn chips. Sprinkle with 2 cups of cheese. Spoon ground beef and bean mixture on top of the cheese layer. Sprinkle with 2 extra cups of cheese.

5️⃣ Bake, uncovered, until bubbly and cheese is browning, about 25-30 minutes. Garnish with additional toppings as desired.

Will try this one the next time I want frito pie.It looks above and beyond the easy basic versions (this time).

The black and pinto beans are appealing for this.

Oh yeah I'm in Texas this is been around I guess since I was a kid. You could get Frito pie served in the bag with a slit on top served with a fork or spoon with warmed up wolf brand Chile and cheese no beans. And I will say LOL as they're called now and we never called them walking tacos that is the silliest name I've ever heard. every baseball and football game in high school. Also remember it at the car races drag racing around track.

Guarantied to NOT be crunchy. What a waste!!!
TEXAS: The birth place of Frito's, Chili, and Frito Pie.
Never would a Texan make chili like this, or cook the Frito's...and that's just an unneeded extra step!
Step 1: Make chili (authentic)
Step 2: Put Frito's in a bowl
Step 3: Add Chili to the bowl
Step 4: Top with Cheese (onion and jalapeño can be added to taste)
Step 5: Enjoy
You can add other toppings (sour cream, sweet jalapeño, tomatoes, etc) as desired. It will no longer be authentic, but is still widely excepted in Texas as, ok.
* But under no circumstances would you ever mix the ingredients before "plating" the dish. The chips WILL get soggy! *
