This is the list of the most underrated PROG bands ever. The methodology employed here is pretty basic: where a band is in the collective consciousness versus where they actually belong and the difference between the two give us this:

3. Van Der Graaf Generator
4. Nemo/JPL
5. Camel
6. Anekdoten
7. Happy The Man
8. Kaipa

11. Nektar
12. Solaris
13. Jade Warrior
14. Renaissance
15. Yuka & Chronoship
16. Finch
17. Cast
18. Anyone's Daughter

I have no argument with your list, especially with Renaissance, Van Der Graff Generator and Soft Machine. But I would put Gentle Giant on the top of the list. One of the best bands ever.

One of my favorite underrated prog rock bands is pretty unknown, it's an England based band called Morgan and they only came out with two albums back in the early 70s called Nova Solis and The Sleeper Wakes, definitely worth listening to and checking out if nobody has ever heard of them. Another one is a more modern prog metal/rock band from America just called 3 with albums like Wake Pig and The End is Begun, a band that changes styles and makes catchy songs with a prog flavor in my opinion.

One of the more underrated bands for me is Triumvirat, they were written off by some as ELP clones but I think there musicianship and songwriting were great. Awesome keyboard work

Great list Scot. Surprised that Caravan didn't make the list -- in the UK invariably mentioned in the same breath as Camel, and certainly ranked as highly by myself. No Gong also. Such a unique band of inspirational talents. Keep up the good work - so much great music to discuss.

Hi Scot. Great to hear Man and Audience get some love, both really underrated with some great albums.

Excellent.
Now that I'm retired
I can research these old albums I missed as a kid of the '70's.
Killer.
Peace on earth.

Great list, lots of excellent bands! It's sad to see how past music is forgotten, so much new coming up, young generations can't or won't catch up to that everlasting music

Hi Scott thank you for earlier recommending Nemo, I’d never heard of them until you mentioned them previously in your Top 100 bands. I’ve now remedied that in double quick time.
I can wholly endorse Anyone’s Daughter, Nektar (esp. Recycled; Tab and Remember the Future); Camel (as you said, not so underrated by us here in the UK); England; Solaris and Echolyn.
To add some other names: IQ; Threshold; Shadow Gallery (the latter two are prog metal but they sacrifice neither song nor melody).

Nice list! Of course I would put VdGG at the top personally but most of my favorite bands are on this list. Here's to appreciating the underrated! Another nod to Happy The Man never hurts. Didn't see Gryphon on this. Maybe I missed it or you missed it😁 Great job Scot! Don't let the Apple Mafia get you down. These videos are great for the time being👍🎷🎹🎸✌️

Le Orme is my favorite Italian band. My choice for your list will be Clearlight, criminally underrated band. And Fruupp from Ireland...

Some great choices... Love MAN! Pretty obsessed with them right now. 🙂🙂🙂 Nektar is a band Glen Kellaway still has not heard but one of these days I'm going to lend him my "Remember The Future" album, one of the best prog albums ever.

VDGG gets underrated because some folks can't stomach Peter Hammill's vocal style( an acquired taste, to say the least)...I had that problem with them at first listen, but the music is so superb/great/wondrous that I learned to roll with it. And on the later albums, his style actually is appropriate to the lyrics Gentle Giant and Camel definitely belong to the " underrated " club.

Glad to see you back Scot

I would like to give an honorable mention to "Manfred Mann's Earth Band". Yes their version of Binded by the Light was a big hit, but I know few people who even recognize great albums like "Solar Fire", The Good Earth", "Glorified/Magnified", "Messin'" & "Nighingales and Bombers". Quite a fantastic run.

I'm from the Netherlands and never heard about Finch. Being 56, I might be just a bit too young to have discovered them back in the day. Thank you!!

I agree with Renaissance!

Nice list. Good to hear some of my all-time favorite bands like Renaissance, Camel and Nemo get some love. Those three are probably in my personal "big six." Love them.
