SRAM GX: Is Cheaper Better?

SRAM's new GX Transmission is quite a lot cheaper, but how does it compare to X0 and XX? Here's a comparison between SRAM's 2024 Eagle Transmission

so basically the only thing that will be significantly lighter.... is your wallet

Maybe worth mentioning that the X0 crank in this video is the e-bike version? The X0 comes with a cut out for bio-bikes and is lighter.

Been using SRAM GX for years, never had any problems at all. GX all the way in the new stuff.

I do like the way Sram located the battery in the GX it gives me a better sense of my battery not falling off, and it makes the system look more compact. I do have the old GX AXS in one bike and the new GX transmission in my E-bike and honestly both systems work just fine!!

not only the differences but also the way you analyzed these drivetrains is probably mind blowing.thanks a lot for the
valuable guidance

Great vid thanks Rob. Just been looking at this kit, so nice to see it all laid out like this. I'd be an XO type of guy as would want all black on the build

I’ll say this…I rode two S works back to back yesterday. One had an X01 Axs and the other had a GX transmission. The transmission was hands down the better feeling drivetrain. Hardly felt a weight difference as the bikes are ridiculously light. SRAM nailed the transmission line. That bring said, I’d probably go middle of the road with the X0 transmission to save a little weight just to say it saved weight. Buy once cry once. 🤷🏼‍♂️🙌🏼

Even the GX makes the Pinion MGU good value. 😀

This is really good to know.

I have been away from the biking scene for the last 7 years, but I am currently researching bike companies for my next enduro bike, and piecing together parts I would like to have on the bike. I have noticed that there are so many new components, so many different component names, and finding this transmission thing has been all new to me, and to be honest, a little bit confusing. But I know the SRAM transmission is something I would like to have, as I see my new bike as something I don't really want to upgrade for the life of the bike, unless I have to.

The price difference between the GX and the XX transmission from SRAM is pretty significant, so its really good to know that the GX system performs just as good as the XX version. My enduro bike will be ridden 95% downhill, so weight in grams does not matter to me.

GX with XX Crankset and XO Casset would maybe be the perfect price to weight and longivity mix.

What I would like to know is new T-type transmission vs regular groupset longevity, do you feel it lasts significantly longer?

To me the battery placement alone with GX makes it better than the more expensive X0 and XX

I'm using almost anything as cheap as possible, but went for XO chain, because in my case - it really lasts twice as long as other counterparts. Maybe it's because I don't really clean or lube the chain as often as I should and I ride in winters as well.... but, this is how it works in my case.

One thing worth mentioning a year later ;) is that on XO and XX you can now microadjust them in three separate end points vs the GX's single adjustment.

Great video! I’ve been really torn on this particular upgrade on my fuel Ex 8 . I’m definitely getting the GX with that being said cost wise I don’t compromise but I do want more bang for my buck
