Nikon D7200 Video Frame Rate and AutoFocus Tutorial

Hi y'all! First off, I'm sorry for the blur on the menu. The GoPro isn't so great at focusing on bright lights at close distances.

Topics: Video @ 60fps in 1080; Autofocus Changing (Starts at 2:15)

This is a quick video showing how to select 60 and 50p in 1080p on the Nikon D7200, that, by default, only allows up to 30p. The other two options are greyed out.

All you must do is open up the menu, go to the camera options section, and scroll down to the second page of that option set and select "Image area." While it says "DX" by default, it can be changed to 1.3x.

Once your Image Area is set to 1.3x, you can then go back up to the camera option titled "Frame size/frame rate" area and select your preferred frame rate.

Things to note: You only get 10 minutes of recording time in the 50p or 60p settings enabled by this change. With 30fps, you get 20 minutes of recording before the camera stops recording. You will receive no alert that the recording has stopped.

Autofocus: To change the modes here, you simply need to push and hold the focus button on the bottom front left side of the camera that's by the AF/M toggle. Once that button is pushed, the focus mode on live view becomes yellow, and you can modify the AF-F / AF-S with the rear wheel, and the mode (Wide, Normal, Point, Person) with the front wheel.

Very useful video! I'm pretty new to all this DSLR stuff and well, just started getting serious with photography and I was getting frustrated with taking videos. I kept having to manually focus to a point where I gave up recording videos. Today I decided to find out if there's a way to auto focus without me manually pressing the shutter half way. So glad I came across your video here! Thank you so much!!!

Thank you very much. Even though I've had the camera a few months I hadn't mastered using the front focus selector and using the front and back wheels. The same wheels apply when Live View is off and one presses the AF-Mode button on the front of the camera.

Thanks A big help as I had forgotten about the mode settings and couldn’t understand why it wasnt focusing. Af-f solved that.

This is just what I was looking for, interestingly I can't seem to find this in the Nikon manual when looking for info on video recording and setting up focusing modes for video recording, maybe Nikon overlooked it or I was looking in the wrong place, anyway thanks for a great video.

Hi James 😊 Great video, and I do have a question if that's ok... I am using my D7200 with a 18 - 140mm Nikon lens, it's set on AF-F and I've tried auto and manual mode and wide and normal, but it won't continuously autofocus? I have to have my finger 1/2 on the shutter to focus - the same as a photo. I'm on a deadline to shoot some video and am a bit desperate to work it out, any ideas of what I might be missing?
