In Europe, we do not have borders on the ground. Yet, the borders in the air prevent us from flying directly to our destinations leading to unnecessary emissions. This can be changed tomorrow! #singleskynow

Can we please get back the: Cockpit Tales series back? There are so many interesting routes to cover now. For example Tokyo - Amsterdam over the Northpole

maybe more explanation on how this works today and why you need to fly more kilometers is needed.

This is amazing! Since I already know about the partnership between KLM and thalys, I can really tell that KLM and other airlines are working to reduce co2 in the sky, especially since Europe is a continent with so many small borders.

Do more direct routes also mean new approach patterns into Schiphol? Because some people who are living quietly now will find themselves in the crosshairs of landing aircraft then.

Well, that's the most bizarre thing I've seen today. Go the Dutch.

Also, we need significantly more affordable high speed rail. I believe that I may have a simple design solution, using already proven technologies.... which will enable nations to afford & rapidly develop their own HSR networks while, simultaneously, being faster yet safer, more reliable, higher availability.... vs. existing HSR designs... all for significantly less costs! Patents pending.... Interested prospective commercial stakeholders must be agreeable to being bound by a nondisclosure agreement.

But why isn't this possible? Why can't they just fly over France?

If you fly from Amsterdam to Geneva and file your flight plan via Nicky, (NIK) Brussels (BUB), Diekirch (DIK) and Luxeuil (LUL) you fly according to the shown route!! And for a single European Sky the Organisation Eurocontrol was set up in the 1960, the Maastricht Air Traffic Control Centre provides you with direct routes but a single European sky is a struggle already for 60 years, the individual countries, governments do NOT want it. So, stop moaning !!
