Just want to say thanks! I have done this many times in the past but I don't do it often enough to remember all the exact things I need to do. This was to the point and helpful.

Thank you, for putting this how-to up; your procedure was very concise and to the point! My Linux Mint OS is on a dedicated Linux PC and my ssd was getting maxed out due to video editing so dug out and old 1 TB mechanical HD and added to the system as per your steps. The only additional step required was for me to access the newly created mnt folder and change the user permission access for "read & write" from root to me. I also made the drive visible when mounted under the devices tree similar to when you insert a thumb drive. Again thank you, much appreciated.

This is really helpful. I am trying to become un-intimidated by using Linux within the terminal. For me, I don't care to be an expert, but I want to be able to do basic things w/o fears.

Hey, can't you test FSTAB before you reboot? I saw someone that had the OS test the FSTAB to make sure that it was all okay.

So I partially followed this video but didn’t realize I would lose access to to the stuff I already had on their.

Any way to undo the partition without losing the data?

I do have ubuntu, but i use windows.my ubuntu is there to make my windows work again after i messed up my windows again that it does not boot. What did i do? I renamed etc and made a new etc folder so that i could change the now com9letely inaccessible bit still there and invisible host file in windows. Windows was stuck in trying to recovering endlessly. Your video is a great help to my cause to make windows bleed. Thank you.

what about the rights for the add disk, this part is missing, now we have a drive mounted that only root can use

why "/dev/disk/by..." and not just "UUID=... etc" ?

It would be good to explain the options and the pass columns a bit more....
