One word: INTERNSHIP. Do whatever it takes to get experience during your school year. Even with your diploma, NOBODY will hire you if you don't have work experiences, Trust me.

I'm in college. I can vouch for everything except the wardrobe thing. Nobody cares about what you wear. Nobody.

I started college last school year so I guess I can pitch in:

- Try to get to know yourself as much as possible before getting to college: interests, passions, likes, dislikes. You have an easier time figuring out your major, clubs you want to join, type of friends you want, etc if you do. (HUGE ONE)

- If you're a Christian (or even if you're interested in becoming one), form a closer relationship with God because you face so many different challenges (academically, socially, mentally, emotionally, etc.) away from home without that close parental support you're used to getting.

- Leave your shy days behind you in the past; everyone is new here. You get to start fresh with a new group people and setting, so build up your confidence and meet new people and try new things you wouldn't have done before.

Reply with some more in the comments, I'm interested to see more advice!

I wish I knew how to read before starting college. It would have made it a lot easier.

I wish I had known that it is ok to not immediately know what you want to go to college for. I'd changed my major 4 times over the course of almost 4 years, it stressed me out, as I was pushed to go to college but I FINALLY found my place. It's scary making such a big decision especially if you are headed to college straight out of high school. Don't feel pressured. You'll waste a lot of time and money like I did. 🙄

I think my biggest worry would be making friends. I have trouble starting a conversation but once a person gets to know me I'm ok.

What is up with the "ramen" stigma? I'm starting college in the fall, and I don't see a time where I will have to live off ramen thanks to meal plans! I suppose if the student can't afford the meal plan then yes, they will have to buy cheap food but I can see someone spending as much a year on groceries as a meal plan would be.

I leave to go to college in a week. I think I'm more nervous than excited because I'm kind of an introvert and I'm super shy. So wish me luck.

Videos like this are extremely helpful. I also got a few kindle books on what to expect like "Making the Most of College." The best advice comes from recent students
