I rode my motorcycle at night for 15 days... what I learned

A 15 day night challenge so I can work on getting systems in place to see and be seen while riding at night. I have rules in place to keep me safe while riding, such as: no riding when tired, when it's raining, or at night; all of which are times of increased risks for accidents while riding. And then winter came. And I didn't ride for weeks. I decided I had to break this rule, and my fears. So I made myself ride at night to figure out how to make it safe, and overcome my fears.

*Ride at your own risk. Doodle on a Motorcycle disclaims any liability incurred in connection with the use of the concepts outlined on this channel and its content. You alone are responsible for your own safety*

When I was a young rider night riding was my favorite time to ride. Now close to 70 it scares the crap out of me. Enjoy it while young, eyes get old .

I love riding at night. Especially in summer. Alot of motorcycles headlights are not ideal in poorly lit roads. I normally try to stay on well lit roads. Riding late at night has the extra advantage of less vehicles on the road, so another positive right there. If you can get a few friends to go riding with you, it is even more fun to ride and grab a late night snack.

It takes a brave person to openly discuss their fears. That’s one of the things we love about you, Doodle. It’s good to push though those fears but do so cautiously and be patient with yourself. I’m right there with you regarding the vision.

Doodle, I just wanted to let you know I've just bought my first bike at the age of 57. Your videos helped me a lot in the process of learning and taking my test. Thank you. Greetings from France.

I love night riding. I should probably stop wearing a dark smoked visor to ride though...ugh but I'm too lazy to change it everytime LOL

I like your videos cause they are orderly and to the point and fairly detailed. A lot of vloggers tend to get off point and start to stream of consciousness talk. At which point I tend to tune out or skip ahead. Keep up the great work.

I'm a keen snowboarder and several years ago I had to find a solution to my glasses fogging up. I'd been wearing glasses for about 35 years or so and had never even contemplated contacts. I couldn't even put eye drops in my eyes let alone contacts. Anyway, my love of snowboarding and staying alive gave me the courage to try. It took a while but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I only use contacts when doing sport and when riding the bike if it's raining, so I'm still not that comfortable with them. But, they've made such a difference to my life. I'm loving how you're pushing yourself and conquering your fears!

Upgrading headlight to a high quality LED unit makes a real difference at night. I also upgrade the turn signals to LED units which add some extra illumination. Then do some thing with tail light and rear turn signals to be more visible to cars coming up behind you. More light is always better and safer for night riding.

I'm a nurse and commute an hour to work in the dark for start of nightshift. In country NSW, Australia, a good set of headlights is a necessity. I have a Hoglights headlight on my MT09. Low beam is good, but high beam is brilliant. Ride safe Doodle.

Nice video Doodle and nice recap of your 21 day night adventure... one thing I really admire in your videos is that you are not afraid push the envelope (i.e. you push your limits) ... in all my years if riding I am always advocating to others that they will never be a gr8 rider ONLY riding in perfect conditions. By all means ride at night.. in the rain... take I285 by the horns at 5pm and do you!!!🤗🤗

Also it's fun trying to identify your riding locations here in ATL....

Peace
Scott

You will have to get used to riding in the rain if you ever want to do some motorcycle traveling. Some of my most memorable rides have been in the rain. When wearing the right gear "Gore-Tex" and sporting the right tires like Michelin Pilot Roads, riding in the rain can be another motorcycling experience.

great video. Very important information for all of us. My vision is also really fucked up at night too. I'm glad I'm not the only one with these issues.
