Shooting with intention, context, and thoughtfully. Really enjoyed how you talked about making relationships in the town and not shooting as much as you thought you would... those stories, conversations, and relationships will absolutely be reflected in the final images later. Self-Assignment aka giving oneself an opportunity to grow - Loved this video!

Ahhh these “random” videos are the best Willem! Such cool insights you share, thank you🫶🏼

Life can be rather random so a random video seems appropriate. Glad that the cleaning of the enlarger worked. Time, grim and dirt can build up and change the colors and I’m pretty sure that the new bulb helped too.

I love what you did with the rock. such a creative and adaptive mind set! It really dives into the topic instead of just surface level photos of the rock itself! Great video, as usual! Its also so special for me because I go to school in San Luis Obispo and see that rock very often but never would think of being this creative photographing it.

I have that same enlarger. I'm saving this video in case that ever happens to me. Thanks for documenting that process.

For me, it feels like the car trip in combination with the underlying music is above all a beautiful declaration of love for a special person.

This project reminds me of Hayahisa Tomiyasu's project TTP. He photographed a table tennis table over 2+ years and compiled it into a photobook. I'd highly recommend checking it out!

I deeply relate to this video. The perceived need to work in projects ultimately creates pressure to do well on them, as if they were school assignments. Whenever perfectionism makes us believe that a flawless result is the only acceptable one, we are much more likely to disapprove our own art. This can be incredibly frustrating, considering that we DO care about our craft, and spend a large chunk of our energy working on it. Ultimately, letting go of perfection frees us. A single project doesn’t define us as artists, and having the opportunity to do better on the next one is a blessing that keeps us going.

Ooooo, I have to visit Vancouver, Canada someday myself. The photos you made on the drive down were awesome, project or not. That’s probably a super good thing that you favor the project and assignment oriented work, I hope that means you can really love photography as your career!

Something about the blue to red gas pump shot is so nice when it goes from a little red bit to full red screen in the same pan

Willem it is a pleasure to have been following your work for the last three years. The day I discovered about your existence, was the day in which I decided to learn how to shoot a film camera. When people ask me who taught me about film photography I always answer "Willem Verbeeck". I admire your work and your way of doing things and I hope our paths come across one day and I get the chance to have a cool conversation with you. Big hug, from Lisbon.
