I used to work at a Ford dealer and one of our loner cars was an SHO Taurus. One of the new ones with almost 400 horse. Don't even want to think about how hard that car has been driven.

No joke, guys, I genuinely want to see you do a miniseries on rent-a-car cars.

Nice, I hope it treats you well. That's a "Premium" trim. The Subaru service loaner program cars are driven to about 3-5k miles (typically) then converted to certified preowned inventory. Let me know if you have any questions about the Starlink infotainment system. I sold Subaru as a delivery specialist for over 5 years up until very recently.

The complaints about the CVT seem to only come from gear heads who generally don't buy these anyway. Besides, Subaru is about low end torque to get out of snow so you can get where you need to go, regardless of weather. Every time we got snowed in at the dealer here in MN, they would always easily pull out of the snow no problem so we could plow. That's the point. The 5 speed does that well too but even gear heads tend to prefer the CVT after driving them both, in my experience. Not everything has to have a stick. (Owned nothing but since I was 16, so I get it. )

Those complaining about the cvt clearly don't understand the need to increase mpg to stay competitive. The Subaru Lineratronic CVT is actually the better performer of the two options in the Impreza for acceleration and torque, and it helps the vehicle get 38mpg on an entry level AWD car under $25k. It's also not quite the slush box like competitors because the pulleys are close ratio, and its direct power from the engine, no transfer cases because of its position. The front differential is also part of the transmission, again no transfer case to lose horsepower to. It's not a sportscar, no, but i think if you drive one and remember who is actually buying these cars, you'll find it has plenty.

Remember that if you want power then you have options. Selling cars like these has allowed Subaru to continue to pour R&D into things like the WRX. The buyers of these cars are parents for their college bound kids and those seeking simpler smaller AWD cars. Think of the market. This is "Regular" car reviews, right?

Remember that Subaru is not a big company by comparison. They have to appeal to what will sell quickly. They only have 2 factories after all. Even with a supply of on average 5-15 Impreza models at a time, usually 1-3 being stick, we would still have to do dealer trades because people are very specific on what they want.

All I'm saying is try to see the big picture. If you want power, get a WRX or upgrade to a Legacy. The Impreza is perfectly balanced for what it is, and the record sales numbers prove that.

Sorry for the rant.

I bought a 2019 Premium Impreza with CVT. Got a great deal because in WA state they do not sell. Sales guy said I was the first one he has met to even look at one, buyers want more ground clearance. The one I got was on the lot for four months and never test drove. Odometer had 5 miles when I left the lot. I wanted a practical, utilitarian, safe, conservative looking and hopefully reliable AWD wagon and Impreza fit the bill.

Who else can just listen to Mr. Regular all night? I just love his voice for some reason.

It actually looks alright on the inside. Totally different from the Impreza when I was young. Would make a good family car.

Whoa wait a minute, _hang on_ a second! ...a key... into the ignition? I was convinced every dagum automobile made in the last few years utilized a weird fob thing. More satisfaction in using a key than pressing the brake and a start button to get going.

I really liked Steve Moyers Subaru. I was shopping for an Impreza Wagon with a manual. They sold the one they had. Yes, the manual transmission is so much better. Screw you fake shift points CVT.
