Personally, even though he is not technically a "leftist" creator (and that works in his favour) - Dr K from Healthy Gamer GG is in my opinion filling rhis role really well. He definitely has an audience that spans the entire political spectrum but he is so laser focused on mental health and being non-judgemental that he both meets leftist standards of not being 'problematic' and also doesn't alienate people from anywhere on the political spectrum while providing really good and useful mental health advice and more.

It’s because the truth is nuanced and complex and comes with qualifiers and you just can’t make that ‘short and entertaining’

I like what the speech prof is doing - reacting directly to a lot of these young men’s role models, and kind of purposely getting into beefs - but it delivers mental health advice

I think the ultimate answer is that we need to do more to normalize mental health care for young men

It's not about the misinformation or short form content. It's about what these influencers are CORRECT about, and then once that resonates, they can rant about all other kinds of nonsense with loyalty established.

Conservative talking points seem to focus on "over-simplify until its stupid". That tactic works very well with short-form videos and people who aren't critical thinkers.

do triggered men have an alert on their phones that any time a female makes a comment about their heroes, they are notified to comment? I am sure most of them here dont subscribe to Chelsea.

Truth, logical discourse, responsibility to yourself and your community, and education about the lies these people spread is difficult enough as it is and even more difficult to do in a 30 second video clip that also makes the idea look attractive and engaging to young people. It is much easier for these creators to convince youth to blame women and society for their issues of loneliness and isolation than telling the truth and saying that individuals need to work on themselves to become decent self actualized people. The detachment of many young men from social interaction has pushed them into this isolationist echo chamber that is beyond dangerous. The question is how do we make being a decent human being and leading a good life, where you treat others with equality and kindness, as appealing as misogyny, cigar smoking snark, expensive cars, greed, and the other flashy things that have always enthralled insecure teenage boys trying to find their place in the world? I wish I had that answer.

I agree, the way we've been addressing toxic masculinity on the left over the last decade has had the effect of denigrating all masculinity without offering anything to replace it, and leaving a vacuum for misogyny to flourish. And the way that society now as a whole is beginning to look at gender and what it means, leaves a lot of young cis boys thinking, "well where do I fit in?" We don't have an answer for them, but misogynists do, and that's a problem.
❤ Sending love to you both, sorry this comment section looks like it's gonna be a total mess! Have a great day!

Chelsea noooo!!! You just opened the door to all of the god awful tate worshippers! You can’t expect a calm, logical conversation with them on YouTube of all places. They’re too emotional.

Dr K is probably the best creator representing neutral ground. He is not really taking sides and his content is purely research and science based.
He is working with all kinds of people therefore his content is actually for everyone - not only for certain target audience.

Compared to JP which is extremely biased as he is creating content purely for young lost guys that are easy to radicalise and monetise.

Contra Points used to be pretty successful at de-radicalizing young men with long-form videos. But the world's gotten crazier since those days, been pushed to further extremes by people who stand to make a whole lot of money from an overthrow of democracy (and with it, the overthrow of any sort of regulation).

Because we on the left aren’t addressing with regularity and seriousness issues that young men are facing. There are a few, but as you said there is more long form content but we have to actually speak to their concerns in ways that don’t make them feel demonized that also works with the social media algorithms.

It reminds me of a saying that goes something like "for every big problem there is a simple answer that is also wrong."

Jordan Peterson should never be mentioned in the same sentence as Andrew Tate, except for comparison. They're not from the same planet intellectually or morally.

Wait - what’s wrong with Jordan Peterson? Kinda shocked to hear his name mentioned alongside someone like Andrew Tate

You can't just put Tate and Peterson in the same basket....

I think that a huge part of the issue is just that the left is really bad at addressing men's issues on their own terms. Almost always, whenever the left tries to address men's issues, it tends to get framed in terms of "here's how to be a better feminist as a man" or "here's how this issue with men effects women" or "how to be a better ally". There's very little of content creators looking to help men from a leftist perspective for the sake of helping men. It's to the point where, in large swathes of the online left, even acknowledging the existence of men's issues, or that men are struggling right now, gets you banned/ostracized and labeled as an incel or MRA. We need to start building a culture on the left where masculinity and men's issues can be discussed and resolved in healthy ways, *for the sake of solving those issues*. We also need to really stop blaming men for the existence of the patriarchy, since no man alive had any hand in creating it, and the vast majority of men are just as oppressed by it as women. The way the left handles gender in general, and the feminist movement in particular, should probably take another look at how it uses language, and what its terminology is really communicating to people.

I’m fascinated with studying these gurus, not because I think what they say is great, but because it’s an awesome study on how to gain influence and spread ideas. We need more good people (from both sides of the aisle) studying these tactics and showing up as leaders to present a thoughtful and well researched point of view.

The left dislikes men. They really need to find a reason within their byzantine ideologies to treat us like human beings with our own problems.

I dont like tate, but at least he seems to care somewhat and isn't openly hostile. Hell, even this short is about preventing misogyny, not helping men.

They play on young peoples ignorance and their drive to get easy answers. They know that many these young people who are drawn to them probably come from broken families or have trauma and so they play to that and tell them they can solve all of it.
