Dynamics - Tips Beginner Composers Orchestral Music

In this video I'll discuss the concept of dynamics. A very important element if you want to make realistic and good sounding orchestral midi mockups.

► Dynamics: three important elements

Let’s break down dynamics in three elements: modulation, expression and vibrato. If you manipulate all three of them at the same time, you will achieve a very good and realistic orchestral sound.

If you’re planning to purchase a new orchestral library make sure that you can control the elements of dynamics. Or at least two of them. Cause some libraries don’t allow you to manipulate the vibrato.

To manipulate the dynamics you can best use a midi fader controller. In the video I showed you the Korg Nanokontrol 2. A simple, but very effective and cheap device that does the job very well!

If you don’t have enough money to buy one or just don’t want to buy a midi fader controller, you can draw the elements of dynamics with your mouse inside your DAW. Or perhaps use the midi faders that are build into your midi keyboard.
