One of the most frustrating things in the workshop is DUST. It's everywhere, and a lack of dust collection makes it 10 times worse. In this video, I'll show you exactly how I assembled a DIY vacuum adapter for dust collection with my 12” DeWalt Sliding Miter Saw (DWS779). All you need is a few cheap parts from the store and you'll be good to go!

For reference, I have a Ridgid Shop Vac with a 2.5" hose (standard factory hose)

Parts:
- 1 1/2" x 1 1/4" Fernco Flexible Coupling
- 1 1/2" 90 Degree PVC Street Elbow
- Ridgid 2.5" adapter

Just bought a universal adapter kit tonight and nothing fit the 1.5" port on my miter saw. This video saved the day. Thank you!

Why they don’t just make it with the right connection baffles me.

Thanks for the video! My issue is that when I turn on my shop vac, it sucks the rubber flaps together and doesn’t allow the dust to go in… Anyone have any suggestions on a good fix there?

My understanding is that PVC should never be used in a wood dust collection system. Static electricity build up is a possibility. That with wood dust can start a fire. However, not sure if the volume of PVC in the elbow will create enough electricity to cause an accident. Certainly if the whole system was plastic that would be a problem. Just my two cents. :)

I have the DWS779 and my exhaust is 1.75 in wide, so it's odd yours will fit that 1.5" hose.

Do you have to turn the shop vac on every time you make a cut or can you do a series of cuts and then turn the vac on at the end to collect all of the dust in the tube?
