Today's makeover is one I actually wasn't fully planning until the beginning of this year! I created an office space for myself that I found myself not using as much as I thought I would.

I think it would look really cool to panel a door to the bathroom and have it blend in with the wall so you don't notice there is a door there. A secret passage to the bathroom how awesome would that be!

The old office would make an amazing library with real wood bookcases floor to ceiling with just a couple of comfy chairs and a light to read in. An antique library table would be an added touch.

Two shelves and definitely add that extra shelve on the other side. It is looking so great.

I lived in mid century house designed by Enrico Taglietti - with all the original built ins, including an entire office.I loved the long, low lines. Directly above the desk which spanned an entire wall, he designed a built in lightbox, with soft downlights illuminating your work. The top of the box served as a shelf for books. It was such a productive space!

It looks beautiful, Drew! The next time you install tongue and groove wood products, use a little piece of off-cut to lock in to the piece you want to hammer, and hammer that instead so that you don't dent the wood edge or break the tongue! I think two shelves would look great over the desk, and I would consider some shallow drawers under that little shelf under the window!

You may want a hole in countertop for cords. Love all the elements of the design.

Yes add all the shelves. Someone suggested a paneled door into the bathroom. Great idea

I love the idea of making the bathroom door blend in with the wood, and making it a secret door that leads to the bathroom! Even having small shelves to make it look like a bookcase. I love the idea of covering the ceiling with the oak, as well. It instantly would become a true nook, and so cozy, pulling you in to work on your laptop. You make design so much fun, and inspiring!

Hot tip for you Drew- you can get high-end fine tooth “finish cut” blades for your jigsaw that leave a smooth finish without all the splintery rough edges. I avoided my jigsaw for years because I hated dealing with the roughness of the cut and all the sanding required… but now I use it all the time!

I’m loving this. On the window side where you are considering adding an extra shelf I think that you should consider making custom drawers to fit underneath the shelf. You mentioned that you don’t have any drawers in your room. The drawers would work for your socks and underwear as well as for office supplies.

The fancy office is to have future guest clients when you design their entire homes!

The door to the bathroom would be a great place for a pocket door. Installation is a project but would be well worth it for the space.

Open up the doorway to the bathroom and add a pocket door, if possible. That way it doesn't disrupt the office space but gives privacy if needed.

It’s hard to remodel or decorate a home until you live in it for a while. What might work sometimes doesn’t. Making a house a home is a process. Sometimes it needs changing or refreshing

It reminds me of an old fashioned man’s library. I’m loving the globe because that sets it off. Maybe some desk accessories in a soft leather, a beautiful anniversary clock on a shelf and LOVE the chair in green! This space is going to be fabulous!

For your question about shelving, I think maybe do bookshelves under the shelf on the side opposite the desk. Then you’d only need one shelf above the desk for decor to keep a more open feel to your work area.

Great job!
To avoid damaging the tongue and groove boarding, you may want to consider using a rubber mallet. Alternatively, use a scrap piece of the tongue and groove (placed against the board you're attaching) and hit the scrap piece with the hammer or mallet instead.

Definitely shelves above the desk and also on the other side. You can never have enough storage space. The old office would make a great reading/library space. Make it cozy and warm, to snuggle up with a good book and have some coffee or tea. Although you said, you don't read much. Could also be a project/craft room.

First of all Drew…the shirt you had on in the intro looked stunning on you!! It really brought out your eyes…so handsome!! The office is looking great so far!! I would definitely add 2 shelves above your desk. You have so many stylish items you could add to them!! Putting another shelf under the built in on the opposite side is a great idea!! Can’t wait to see it finished!!🥰

Loving this idea of an Office nook. Sometimes the pressure of feeling you have to work in a dedicated office can be unappealing so I don’t blame you for making this change. Re shelving, I would put the shelf for books behind the chair below that built-in and then one shelf over the desk with a beautiful piece of artwork above it. And btw you really should be hammering those wood planks with a rubber mallet. I was cringing when you used a regular hammer for fear you’d damage the wood. Whatever decisions you make I’m sure this nook will look gorgeous! Have a great week! 😊
