The use of the word tay(?) is what my father-in-law said they used when he was stationed in Tehran, Iran, with the U.S. Army, during World War II. All these years I thought he had simply misunderstood what they were say. Thank you for the information.

With german its not pronounced like tea like we do, its pronounced like how the romantic languages do (like tay) but spelt like "tee".
