The primary difference between red pine and white pine needles lies in the number per fascicle (bundle): red pine has two needles per fascicle, while white pine has five👍🏼

In Australia this happens a lot with our hard wood trees. They usually survive like this for another 100yrs or so until the get disease. I've seen some amazing lightning damaged trees in my time. Pretty amazing they survive such a traumatic event

I’ve never seen anything this cool about a tree before. How lucky to be someone who gets to find that in nature

you would love a pear tree near me. over 100 years old, hollow from a lightning strike over 20 years ago, and yet still produces unique and delicious pears each year (if the squirrels don’t get to them).

That's so cool. Logic in my head knows this is what a tree knot would be formed by. But I have never seen this. Is it the same with all trees?

Just a theory since it's pine--

Fat wood points left behind. The reason is that it's so hard it outlasts the wood and it's one heck of an accelerant - like turpentine ...

Native American trading tree! Where different tribes would put things in to trade to others. Without having to meet each other!
