Savage Gear 3D Suicide Duck Review Topwater Bass Fishing Bait? Or Is It...

preview_player
Показать описание
Every now and then a bait comes a long that looks totally awesome and is super unique. This is the case with the Savage Gear 3-D Suicide Duck. Unfortunately, after playing around with it, it's probably going to catch more fisherman than bass. Dont get me wrong this thing looks cool and super realistic, but it doesn't seem that practical for bass fishing. It has cool action and it's innovative for sure, but I'm not sure I'd be putting down my favorite topwater baits in place of this.

leave the hook on the belly off for weedless action, and just loosen up the top a touch. that's what I did works great

You can adjust the clips on the bait with pliers by bending the clips in and out. You can actually get the hooks to release quite easily.

Savage gear designed the lure with pike as the target species.

I don't like how American bass fishermen are criticizing savage gears lures. They are designed for European pike, which normally take lures side on, at my local lake it is one of the best and most popular lures. The hook up ratio is fine when pike fishing, but I imagine it is not great for bass

For bass fishing, add the stringer bar to the bottom. I leave the top treble clipped, let the bottom treble hang free, attach the stringer bar to the same split ring as the bottom hook, clip the stringer in place and add a 3rd treble to the end of it. That's 2 trebles on bottom (front and back) and a treble on top. I don't have hookup issues with largemouth.

It's definitely well-suited for musky as it is configured right out of the box. I agree that bass might have a harder time hooking up with it, but pike and musky will have no such problems.

The problem is the lure does not come with instructions or where to find them. However if you do a search you can find the savage gear video demonstrating rigging and how to use the stinger wires several ways. There is also a video on how to maintain the lure. I think the videos clear up your concerns . I am surprised that savage gear didn't include instructions or even a link to tell how to find the videos.

I'm not associated with them but thought these links would help as they did me.

I’ve had no problem with the hooks deploying. If you are open the stays up a little bit. They’re metal so they should bend a little. The new savage ducks come with an extending rod on the rear hook that lets it trail behind the spinning feet. Love my savage suicide duck and the pike do too

It comes with a stinger wire so you can drag the treble hook behind its feet if the bass are short striking you or attach it to the belly and drag it that way it’s customizable works great 👍

Did you try rigging the stinger hook off the back with the little extended rod that comes with them? That puts the rear hook off the back of the bait and in between the feet...been reading that this is the way to go for these baits to increase hook-up ratio.

Great and Honest Lure review .... I do Hope Savage Gear sees your video!
If it is THAT hard to pull free the top trebles, most rear strikes will not hook up.
Well presented and well done for honest feedback !
Cheers from Australia !!

I agree. The holders are a bit tight. Do you think the 4.25 size would be better for bass? Little bit smaller profile, and it wouldn't need to engulf the size of the 6. (Not saying they can't, its just a lot better when the fish has less distance to travel to meet that hook on the back).

Could you slightly bend out those holders for easier release?

i received this lure as a gift....looked great when i opened the package....with that said, no instructions on proper way to rig....let the hooks swing freely, what is the pack of beads and wire that comes with it....for a 15.00 lure you would think they would insert some sort of instructions...watching your video and several others helped. found the wire can be used as a stinger hook...but still at a loss about the beads....and

Hey man. Greetings from the Netherlands here. A friend of mine catches some awesome pike with this in spring and summer. Our country is full of massive northern pike, often hiding in the plants. He actually takes off the bottom treble and then he can drag it through the plants without snagging on them. That makes it unique in terms of where you can fish. The bites are incredible, as the pike comes up out of the water to take the lure. For bass I totally agree with your points, as well as being too big for all but the largest bass in my country. Its a pike lure to me! Situationally amazing.

I think your right . The hooks need to be on the side so when the bass hit it from the side they will get hooked .
