Yeah a lot of the school systems in North America are just, learn this long enough to spit it out onto a test so the school will get money. Which isn’t how learning works.

I thought essays were dumb busy work with no real world applications until I eventually got a teacher that said what we write about isn’t the important part about learning to write an essay. It’s learning to do the research and present your argument, which has a real world application. It’s what we should be doing. In Canada we don’t have history class but social studies. You learn about the world now and history and if you have a good curriculum, how history has shaped out present and how the present is shaping our future.

what i realized in high school is that a lot of classes are useless unless you are going into a field where they are directly relevant. history and the communication and analysis parts of english are important, but they are taught in such an unfun way. the reasoning part of math is important, but most people aren't really going to need anything past algebra. the sciences are the worst offender imo. i do not need to know how really small things work in order to live my life. and while a basic understanding of physics is not unhelpful, i really didn't need to know everything they taught me

6:30 as someone who leans pretty far on the right side, I have gone through a lot of out of school stuff to get there. it's still rough work and even though I may have learned nothing recently you should just still stay in school, cause you'll probably need some useful stuff from it later like diplomas, I'm still in school just cause I need one and trust me I want out as much if not more.
however I would like to mention there is a difference between education and learning, something a lot of teaches should realize, education is forcing knowledge onto a student which is not going to help them, I have a friend with a mental condition which makes it hard for him to understand things people tell him and I've watched him get mentally abused by teachers for it. learning is much better than education as it's letting the students feel they're in some control, that's why even though some students prefer visual or audible learning hands on is much better for all students as it's the easiest type of information for all students to take in
