Another lostwave song, "Just A Game", was also found recently with help from the late OP's daughter! Shortly after the original creator was contacted as well, giving us more insight into the song.

leaks dedicated to finding an obscure media that otherwise be practically impossible to find is not "cheating", it's just the only way to do that.

besides the nintendo gigaleaks not only answer a 24 years old question, but it reveals a lot of beta contents that people then would only find from old recordings of nintendo events or something I forgot it's name

For EKT's case, I still believe that Carl92 KNEW where this song came from, but he was hoping that a "cleaner" version existed on YouTube.

Ulterior Motives has to be one of my favorite lost media searches ever. There were so many theories, and it got mainstream attention. Then it turns out the story behind the song was nothing like we expected--the truth being hidden by the very guy who sparked the search himself, Carl92

Whoever leaks the Disney Vault will be a hero.

i think its very gatekeep-y to say that finding lost media from data leaks is “cheating” or “not in the spirit of lost media”. the fact of the matter is that disney likely would have never released these things themselves, and this was the only realistic way to find them unless someone who worked on the show miraculously had it. i understand youre operating from the perspective of a content creator, but its still a weird thing to say

11:35 I don’t get what’s the deal here? It doesn’t matter about the “ethics” or whether or not it “makes a good story”, and there’s no “spirit” of lost media. The whole point of finding lost media is to find and archive the media for the sake of preservation. Lost media isn’t a content mill for YouTubers to farm numbers.

Ulterior Motives being found in an Adult Movie was so funny to me back in April. A week prior, I turned in a video assignment for my science class and the video contained the 17 second snippet. If my teacher did that assignment a few days later I might’ve been screwed over.

11:54 I gotta disagree, Leaks like this are likely the only way we can find media like this

I'm so early that this comment is going to be lost media

Your take on leaks is the dumbest shit i've heard in a long time

we're not talking about leaking things early that are supposed to release and make money later down the line, we are talking about leaking content that otherwise never would've been made publicly available AT ALL, EVER.

the only negative side to leaks is when a game/tv/movie production has leaks BEFORE the release, thus influencing the outcome of the actual release. But a bunch of pilots for shows that either have been running for years now or were never made ???? Literally 0 harm in that.

Seems a bit silly to say leaks "aren't in the spirit of lost media", tbh. Most found media are discovered and posts unofficially and unauthorized. Many are technically leaked. If you did get Me and My Friends from someone who worked on it, that would be a leak since they likely aren't the official copyright holder. Cracks (the Sesame Street short) was very likely leaked from someone who had access to it but wasn't the owner or copyright holder. Ripping and posting a VHS tape of a lost Nickelodeon short is illegal copyright infringement. The only way to find media completely legally is to either convince the copyright holder(s) to release it themselves, which we all know by now is not likely, or wait like a hundred years for the work to pass into the public domain and then post it which has some pretty obvious problems if you're searching for anything more recent than the 1930s. Frankly, copyright and trademark law are your enemy if you are a media preservationist/lost media enthusiast. I'm not saying copyright law is 100% bad (as a creator I certainly like parts of it!) but it is what allows works to be locked away indefinitely and archives to be destroyed.

Dude, your complaining about a company having leaks to their old lost pilots. It's ok if someone took a screen recording but if someone saved the file back in the day its suddenly wrong. Thats such a weird take from a yt channel that talks about preserving media.

I disagree with your opinion about leaks. Unless the leak is actually hurting the creators/companies, I don't think it's a bad thing. None of those pilots were hurting anyone by being released. It's a good thing for people who are interested in seeing that kind of stuff too. Imagine how much of this stuff just sits in the company's archives, but they don't release it just because it's not profitable. I hope the rise of interest in this kind of thing will change that.

preservation of media "an interesting story"

animehearthd

The spirit of lost media is the preservation, if it got found by a leak with no fanfare, that's fine, because the media has been preserved, which is the most important thing to a lost media search

the goal of finding lost media is to find and document said media, not to build an "interesting history" with the search...
