Geno Morelli shows how to defend the single-leg takedown in wrestling and bjj if your opponent gets into your legs/hips. The first step is to stop their shot/takedown momentum by feeding them your hips. Second is to start controlling their posture and getting your weight on top of them. Finally, you want to look to get your leg that they are attacking back as far as you can and ideally breaking their grip. Then you can look to go into your own takedown options or chokes/techniques from the front headlock.

A sprawl would be better as youre not letting them get leverage over your center of gravity at any point. This technique hinges on you being much stronger than your opponent.
