At 4:29 You mentioned canoes that had sails added later when Europeans arrived.
The Rapa Nui culture may not have had sails for their canoes that they used around the island.
But the Polynesians definitely had sails for their canoes, some made from pandanus leaves.
There are many drawings by first contact Europeans of the canoes with sails.

theory: Moai started as simple navigation aides; if you look at all the harbours around the island, you will see coastal positioned Moai line up perfectly as navigation aides to direct boats/waka into safe channels to the harbour to land safely. the family/tribe whom owned the quarry went nuts and it was a simple over supply that out stripped demand, and they just couldn't sell them to the other villages
