I’ve been a lifelong Gordon fan since his sprint car days, and the one thing I’ve always laughed at was the perceived “rivalry” between Jeff and Dale Sr. If you ever needed a picture to define “mutual respect”, it was those two. They couldn’t have been more different. Dale was the naturally quiet outdoorsman from North Carolina and Jeff was the outgoing flashy young kid from California/Indiana. Dale was black and silver and Jeff was bright neon. Dale knew from the time Jeff was driving in the Busch series that he was the next one in line. Greatness recognizes greatness. And the big brother/little brother relationship they had was just hilarious to watch. All the little elbows to the ribs Dale gave Jeff was his way of saying “Yeah, you’ll have the crown at some point, but you ain’t got it today son”.

I've only shed tears over a few people i haven't met. Dale was one of them.

I remember in Jeff's book he talked about how when he was a teenager he raced in a race where a guy died.

Jeff Gordon is not just a great NASCAR driver but he is also such a great person as well.!! Wow, to witness death on the racetrack and then have the stones to go back out there and race again? That guy has nerves of steels.!! 😱👍🏽

Even though I was a Jeff Gordon fan, it killed me when Dale was killed. It took me a long time to get over it. After all these years, any race I watch at Daytona i can’t help but cringe when I see the wall location that took his life.

I remember almost every word of Jeff’s eulogy during Dales funeral. They were the best of friends. I’m sure it was like Jeff’s heart was ripped out his chest. But it was even worse for one man, he was never the same driver after the wreck… Dale Jr.

Am I the only one that said ‘duh?’ after he asked if it was hard to get back in the car? ANY death on the track is hard to get over but when it’s someone like Sr, it’s like the earth was knocked of its axis and no one knows which end is up anymore. It’s going on 24 yrs and I still cry when the wreck pops up or an interview he did or just anything with him in general 😢

It took me a long time to accept Gordon for what he was, ,,an extra ordinary race car driver, .I saw him as someone that had been given everything from day one.unlike Dale Sr martin, the Allison's etc that could and had built cars from the ground up, , , , but in time he proved to be one of the best 😮🎉🎉

My sister was a huge dale Earnhardt fan. She had a room in her house dedicated to him. I would always call her up when the race was within 15 laps from the finish and help her chear him on to win. She was absolutely devastated when he died.

I myself was a life long jeff Gordon fan and i couldn't stand dale sr but i was watching that Daytona 500 in Buffalo with a girl i was dating while in the army herself and family were diehard senior fans and i remember it like it was yesterday when he hit the wall my then girlfriends family knew something was wrong and so did i. When the news broke later on that day i cried like my dad just died

Wonder Boy is here. God when Dale called him Wonder Boy that made me laugh my ass off. Only Dale could come up with that name for Gordon. RIP NUMBER 3 ❤😢😊

I'm from North Carolina about 45 minutes from dales home.. dale Earnhardt WAS Nascar.. even if you pulled for a different driver like myself, i still believe Dale WAS Nascar.. because wheb he left, Nascar changed immediately.. Nascar lost 50 percent of its fans, half its fans when dale passed.. and now today they have almost lost the other 50.. because laying all jokes aside, that 50 percent of fans left, and never returned..

The crazy part was that it didn't look like that hard of an impact to Wall. We all expected Dale to climb from the car and give a big thumbs up. When he didn't is when NASCAR started to slowly be less important to everyone that was a Dale Earnhardt fan. He was the Best for many reasons.
