Stop air and pests from sneaking into your home by adding a sill gasket under the bottom plate of your exterior walls.

It’s a simple, cheap upgrade that helps seal up your house for the life of your home. Most builders use it, but it’s worth asking to be sure.

Did you use a sill gasket in your build?

It's not just an upgrade its code in most areas.

Your not supposed to have direct contact with cement and wood in the first place. That's what those really help with.

Architect here: the sill sealer foam shown here is only good for a capillary break between the concrete and wood framing. While it is necessary for that job, it is not an air seal nor a bug seal. You need to be using a non-hqrdening sealant between the bottom plate and the foundation, a sealant on the inside of the bottom plate, or an air barrier continously across the joint between the sheathing and the foundation to get the bug and air sealing benefit.

Sill seal is code most places far as i know.

But WHY are your corners not

I built for thirty years and used sill seal for ten of those years. The plate doesn’t push down on it enough. The outside walls would stick up the thickened Of the sill seal. A real pain for getting things flat. Better to put the money into silicone chalk And do both sides Of the plate

As a former HERS RATER that is not enough to stop air flow. You also need to caulk around the sill plate also. It’s code just about everywhere.

Its code here. Mud sill, sill plate (pressure treated) then framed wall on top.

A good bed of silicone sealant will also work. And yes Virginia, you can get wood that can be in contact with concrete.

I see you left the critters a nice 2" opening in the corner if they can't get in under the sill.

Most codes require caulking at all exterior plates ( top, bottom and corners) and the exterior moisture barrier is required to extend below the top of the concrete The foam you are talking about is to keep the bare wood from contact with the concrete. This prevent the wood from absorbing moisture through the concrete. You could have just as well used a strip of plastic or tar roofing paper. And achieved the same thing.
The reason for the foam is to compensate for irregularities in the levelness of the concrete

Hey when trying to upsell a product make sure it’s installed correctly and not sticking all out of the sides

Installed two beads of acoustic caulk between the concrete and sill gasket.

Believe it or not, concrete absorbs some water, and wicks it into wood if wood is in direct contact with concrete.
Some form of capillary barrier is absolutely necessary between a concrete foundation and wood frame or else the wood frame will start to rot.

That's great but caulk etc will seal the joint between the plate and the floor.

Guys, you are decades behind.
We did that already 40 years ago between timber and concrete combined with a moisture barrier. It is a no brainer and one should never have to ask.

We use 3mm thick black rubber roll in Germany, on that we lay the bricks for inside and outside walls. The reason is stopping water suck into the Walls.

Its not necessary anymore because we lay XPS foam UNDER the cencrete base plate before we poor it.

I'm in germany

Is there something hardier? that seems flimsy and almost like it would effective for a short time only

Previous owner built a garage on the property. I with they did this. I have constant water coming in during rainy days even after sealing the exterior cracks. I’m tempted to unbolt walls and slide something underneath to prevent water in the future

Say no to leaky sill plates use PROSOCO liquid flashing instead 👍
