Wood Turning a Natural Edge Beautiful Maple Burl

This Burl Bowl has a very nice natural edge with little spikes sticking up.
All but a small area of this piece is burl. The wood was very dense.
It turned sanded and took a nice finish.
The shape reminds me of a flower opening up.

That shellac and the 1000 grit sanding truly transformed the bowl. I could actually see the light in your workshop reflected on the bowl. Thanks for another Friday fix for me!

Every time I think to myself, oh yeah... a nice natural edge would be cool on this thing... and I start carving and before I know it that "natural edge" is on the floor with the rest of the shavings. So great job!

Gorgeous!  Really a beautiful burl.  It sure helps to have nice wood like this. (It makes us all think were better artists than we really are) I really think that live edge looks nothing short of spectacular. Keep up the great work Gary.  Big leaf Maple burl is really a nice wood to turn.  Not too hard, not too soft, doesn't tear out much and sands up really nice without 5 hours of sanding lol.
