Luminox is a profoundly recognizable name in modern watchmaking. Having a solid bearing on the affordable military dive-watch market, many swear by this brand—and nothing else.

I was in the Marine Corps had a luminox watch new a couple of Navy SEALs they thought it was pretty humorous that people would buy these watches basically called them posers or wannabes they wore G-Shocks broke my luminox after about a month nightmare trying to get it serviced so I went with what the seals were wearing G-Shock still have it to this day no problems with it whatsoever and I beat the hell out of it

Look, my father gave me one of his Luminox watches that he bought in the early 2000’s. I’ve had it almost 13 years since I was like 10 or 12 and it still works. Countless fishing trips, dive trips, and many wildlife photography expeditions later it still spins. I actually got charged by a boar on a hunting trip in Texas recently resulting in a 20 foot roll down a hill and the watch is still going.

I purchased this watch a couple of years ago while doing private Guard duty at night hence I purchased the sentry model. It's simple and easy to read. Nice video on the history.

Great video and nice history. I own a couple myself and I get more compliments and interest when I where my Lumi’s than any of my other more expensive watches in my collection. Most days I’m wearing one and their simplicity and style have always serve me well.

Great history check, and the reason why I’ve landed in your comment section is with regards to what people think of LUMINOX?? I’ve just recently landed a Land Series, and with my first impressions being it’s plastic and expensive, to later see it’s a well made no fuss watch. I own a few G-Shocks, but things on a technical side can go wrong that it’ll be too expensive to fix, and why are so many knocking RONDA movements, of course they’re cheap, but only in price, and compared to mostly all mass produced movements, they’re all cheap in reality. I feel those who know LUMINOX have never used one in its made for conditions, it’s so easy to shout on the fence, but to have an honest view and opinion, you need to have used one. I’m impressed so far, is it worth the money, well if it’s still working in 30yrs then absolutely.
Cheers for sharing, have liked, subbed and hit the bell icon to give you support as you deserve a load more subs!

They look good, but from experience and feedback from the UK armed forces, at least, most military types buy G shocks, by far. I quite fancy getting a Leatherback Turtle one and I see that they now make a Sellitta movement one, too, for under $1000, which is fairly impressive. For a super cheap lookalike for nearly no money, the Casio MRW200H is ultra tough, too, however the crystal is plastic and the lume is poor, but if anything they'll take an even bigger beating than a Turtle. Great video.

My stainless steel 3100 that I got twenty years ago is still going strong, and I’ve given it such a beating the numbers on the rotating bezel are half worn off. If you can find one of these older steel models with screw-down crown and case-back you will have a watch for life. Watch-snobs will laugh but I consider this little diver to be my Rolex and I wear it with just as much pride.

Just got my own evo 3003 original Navy SEAL last week. I read some opinions on watch forums that made me second guess my order, but that changed once it was on my wrist. I put it on a Ritchie NATO strap and it’s one tough summahbitch.

I like the looks and mostly the luminosity of my model 1820 but I can't say it is that reliable. I will be needing to replace the entire movement for the second time in only 10+ years. For the price, I expect more than that. For a watch that is so expensive, why do they put in such a cheap movement? I was surprised that I could buy the complete movement myself for only $29, a Harley Ronda 3 Hand Quartz Watch Movement HQ517B-DY- Day. Maybe I will try fixing it myself, how hard could it be?
I previously owned Seiko automatic for over 20-years without ever having to service it once... not even a battery as it doesn't have one. Unfortunately, I lost it in a motorcycle accident where it was ripped off my arm and never recovered (the watch, my arm was fine except for a little blood).

I got one of the limited edition Japan tsunami edition (A.3007.JTAF) in 2012 for a steal online and have been using it for camping or night hiking.. basically anything I do in the dark... I hear the movement's easily damaged when changing the battery, so I tend to do it myself... and inspect/change & oil the gasket... I've smashed it, slammed it, gone swimming, fishing... Things held up well so far... it's Gone through 2 rubber straps and the cloth Velcro one..
The lum is starting to dim, but still quite visible... I just found a discontinued 3803 model online for cheap (-$300) so I figured I'd jump on it. We'll see if that one is just as good.

Did luminox ever enter into a brand deal with Volvo? In 2000, my dad gave me a luminox 3000 he had been given by Volvo for eclipsing 200k miles on his car. I might be misremembering, but I could have sworn that Volvo was on the watch dial. I can't find any info online about it
