Excellent channel Bob. I’m enjoying your discoveries with the Z50. I think this camera really does offer a lot of value. I tried one recently and was impressed.
At last Nikon appear to be steering the ship in the right direction.
Keep up the great work Bob. I like your enthusiasm.

Not sure why people pixel peep. I have shot for 30 years, and in the digital age, have never seen someone zoom on an image unless looking for something in the background. 99% of people do not pixel peep at all. I have shot paid work on an 18-55 kit DX lens and nobody ever knew the difference. If you need to crop in then there’s a different story.

It is sharper and produces slightly more details than my beloved 35mm 1.8g lens. Of course it is not as fast but I am really impressed. Vr also works great. Would be nice to see your review of the 50-250 too!

Surprisingly high image quality, I am impressed. Can be compared to far more expensive equipment like mine.

Are you going to test Nikon Z FX lenses on the Z50? Would be intresting to see that.

What if I told you Nikon already made a camera bracket for the Nikon Z 50 as the perfect mount. It's called the Nikon SK-7 Bracket (the flash version seems perfect).

Vello CB-600 Straight Flash Bracket sells there's for $10.

You pretty much only need a thin straight bracket with a slide in the middle. The slide allows the camera body to sit off set, so the battery door is completely exposed. I'm assuming the weight of the Z 50 is light enough that it won't tip over a tripod. A microphone, flash, LED, etc accessory can be added to the opposite end for any vlogging without blocking the flip down LCD screen.

The bracket doubles as a hot shoe light and mic holder as well. It's pretty simple and very versatile. The only issue I can foresee is someone sitting the camera down and it possibly tipping.

the "off" position of a zoom lens is purely a surface area/space-saving thing. kinda happy when a zoom lens can be collapsed down to take up as little space as possible, especially on small mirrorless bodies.

This camera and lens is a great (re?)start for Nikon in the APS-C mirrorless segment. This level is a great entry point for the masses. I think the closest existing DSLR camera is the D7500, which is mid-high level APS-C, so the price is actually very good. It would be nice for Nikon to follow this up with a D500-ish APS-C mirrorless next year and/or a budget entry level APS-C mirrorless. The FF segement needs a bit of the same. Nikon needs a legitimate sport FF camera, a budget FF camera, and maybe an ultra high end FF camera.

I hope Canon will produce an APS-C R mount camera too. After so many years the EF-M mount cameras aren't really successful and the variety of EF-M lens is very poor and with very few prime lenses.
The Nikon Z50 can be a step for an upgrade to a full frame Z mount camera.

Hi - I couldn't figure out your comments on.the lens being slow - you said don't worry about it then referred to the body and something about lowlight.

Thanks for the detailed review!
Just wonder, how would you rate it compared with the 16-50mm kit lens on A6400? And also the Z DX 50-250mm compared with E 55-210mm?
I already have an A7iii and am looking for a cheaper everyday APS-C (for 50-200mm mainly). I'm kinda willing to go for Z50 for the better handling and display. It'll be even better if the kit lens could kill the sony ones since I'm not planning to upgrade any lens for the APS-C. Thanks!

I was hoping you would publish some thoughts on the 16-50 on a full frame cam. I have a Z7 and considering this lens to make a very lightweight 20mp 24-75 cam.

Thank you for your Z50 videos. They're certainly helping my thoughts about Nikon mirrorless. It's also nice to watch a photography review where I recognise the location. Being nosey what straps are you using on your Z50 and Z6?

Any updates on how this performs on your Z6? I'm sure I'm an outlier but I'm seriously considering grabbing the dx kit lenses for my Z6 for travel.

I think I'll be getting my Z50 next week.

Can you charge and shoot at the same time? If so, can tethering be done during this as well? (Wi-Fi or Wired)

Positive review however I believe there is no jack for a cable release on the Z50, so how are exposures of over 30secs death with?

Having to turn the lenses on does take some getting used to but for the sake of the smaller packing size i think its well worth it.
