In this video Heimler walks you through how to write a SAQ for APUSH, AP Euro, and AP World History. All three histories' Short Answer Questions are scored the same, so the principles here can be applied to all of them.

Thank you for these updated SAQ and LEQ videos! I show my students these every year and I'll show the updated ones to them next week!

How is it logical or reasonable for the college board to go against their OWN rules when it comes to saq guidelines… They quite literally indicate what identify means and don’t grade using this. I am actually so annoyed at this but thank you for telling all of us.

As an experienced APUSH examinee there is 1 thing I would like to DEEPLY EMPHASIZE:

There are 3 SECTIONS of the SAQ and you MUST ANSWER 3 QUESTIONS per SECTION. This for me was the reason why I made a 2 instead of a 3. Good tidings. Now go on and pass this stupid exam and forget about it. ❤

I think this is what the SAQ questions are like

1. With stimulus, a secondary source
2. With stimulus, a primary source
3. Your choice of one out of two SAQ options, no stimulus

Good Morning Steve,
Thanks for bringing up the fact about the AP "Overlords" not being consistent with their own rules, reinforces the point I try to drive into my students- the people at AP (and College Board) are not your friends!!
Thanks for all the amazing content, and good luck this year! "Once more into the breach!"

Oh my gosh. I took ap world last year around this time and when that question came up, I was kind of stunned. I answered the identify feeling very confident, my teacher said that my leq and my mcqs were fine, but my SAQ was TERRIBLE. I got a 5, but it was that question that I remember taking and I guess I lost that point.

That's probably why I got a three on the AP World exam then because I was trained to just identify evidence for the first question. That makes me so sad lol. Good thing I can make a comeback this Friday for APUSH!! ❤️🥰

Another good thing to remember is to not use the same reasoning in your answer on two subsections. You may only get a point for one of them

Thanks again, you got me through AP Euro last year, and are getting me through APUSH this year.

I have seen all the Ap daily reviews and other resources and I was lost but with this video now everything is so clear, thank you Heimler

Reminds me of how a student, when asked to identify a Third-World nationalist leader, literally just wrote "Nasser" and got the point. Like. Not even a definition?

I was an AP Reader last year and they %100 told us that on IDENTIFY question all the student must do is write one complete sentence that simply identifies what is asked in the prompt. I don't know why they would tell the readers something different two years ago. At the reading we go by what it says it the scoring guidelines. We were just told that it had to be a complete sentence. Heimler was not at the reading last year.

What the graders did was insane. Literally what was the reason??? It has me thinking that maybe I could have gotten a 5 instead of 4 on my exam. -__- anyways I'm grateful that heimler told us.

I really appreciate the strategy you shared in your videos, but I'm struggling with time management when using TEA for all my work. Currently, I can only manage to complete up to 3a or 3b before running out of time. Do you have any tips to help me work faster while still using this approach? I also wanted to thank you for providing a formulaic way to approach SAQs, as it was a challenge for me before watching your videos. Thank you so much for your help.😊
