An interesting fact: The Hubble's Main mirror had a defect when it was luanched. So almost every instrument that's install into Hubble after they found that out has an intentional offset to negate the mirror defect.

Everyone at JPL ( Jet Propulsion Labratories) already knew there was a defect in the parabolic reflector.. the key essence was to launch it and run it through its paces, it was far cheaper to keep'er in space than it was to warehouse it.. The cost was, if memory serves right, approx. 10milU$/year to store it in the dust free, humidity and temperature stable environment it needed, thus the launch and future planning for repairs... @jasleil lat'r Buzz..
