Creating Sample Data for Business Central using Excel

In this video, we demonstrate how to use Excel to generate a large amount of randomized sales data that can be imported into Business Central for testing or demonstration purposes.

We utilize Excel functions like INDIRECT and RAND to dynamically generate sales orders and sales lines data, linking it to existing customer and item data in the system. By setting up formulas and employing Excel's autofill feature, we efficiently create sales orders with randomized line items, quantities, and associated customers.

We discuss how to accommodate potential inconsistencies like sales orders with no lines, mimicking real-life scenarios. The data is then exported to a text file using Notepad++, preserving our Excel formulas for future use.

Finally, we walk through importing this data into Business Central using the Import Export PowerTool from Insight Works, and demonstrate the results within the Business Central environment, showing the application of the generated sales orders in the Order Fulfillment Worksheet.
