How long should your scripted video be?

Once you decide to script your video to help you show up in the most professional way you can, a certain question will likely spring to mind:
How long should I make this thing?

After all, it has a huge bearing on the amount of time, resources and expertise that will be required to pull off this miracle. Isn’t it wise to count the cost before you launch into something so complex and costly?

It’s one of those questions that can crack your brain into little pieces. There are just so many possibilities, you don’t even have a good basis for hazarding a guess.

So today I’d like to share with you my personal secret for writing scripts one can actually produce on a timely basis.

I haven’t disclosed this discovery before because in the past, every time I talked to someone about it privately, they would look at me like I had two heads.

But the truth is, the deeper I go into this work, the more I care about others being successful at it than about protecting this silly thing I call ego.

So I invite you to join me on easy street today, where the birds always avoid your car, the children are always well-behaved, and there’s never any stress in deciding how long your scripted videos should be.

Thanks once again for your great advice, succinct and well presented with that nice touch of humor. The six features are the takeaways that keep me on track.

Hi Stephen, another amazing video! Keep up the great work. I wonder what you think of longer videos, like say 10 minutes or longer? Sometimes I find I can be verbose and write a lot, but I have a lot to say and share. Thank you.

Clearly say what needs to be said. No more, no less. Focus on the impact, not the length. As long as you can maintain the viewer's interest, the video can be as long as it needs to be.

wrong. scripted YouTube videos need to be AT LEAST 10 minutes (and one second) and not have profanity in the first minute or two, in order to be paid by YouTube advertising...

also, you forgot about point 7 of your video, wherein you shamelessly BEG for Likes and Subscribes. that's a must.
