I used to nanny for this great family with 2 very high-energy boys. On some days, the mom would come home and joyfully exclaim how tidy clean the house was or marvel at a problem area that I had decluttered. I told her, "Cleaning is a stress reliever for me. When you come home and your house is miraculously spotless, that just means your kids were driving me bonkers."😂

I think it depends on the type of cleaning. Doing dishes is absolutely meditative for me. Cleaning the bathroom less so. :)

I wish I could feel like that. It frustrates the hell out of me… maybe it’s because I need to start from a more organised place so that it feels more like putting the cherry on the top rather than fighting a losing battle?

A lot of Buddhists include cleaning and cooking and things in their meditation. Some even practice the washing of a statue etc as part of their meditation. The idea is that meditation can be a part of your every day life.

No wonder I love cleaning so much!!!! I LOVE to clean and recently got into meditation as well. But every time I'm stressed, I start to clean. Let's just say my house is spotless because I have bad anxiety.

SO true! I vacuumed after work and it didn't take long for my brain and ego to calm right down and be IN the moment 😊

But why does the thought of cleaning stress me out then I start and it’s all great from there. Need to figure out how to just start. I mean I get it done but boy do I dread the startup.

Yay!!! That makes me happy! I can’t meditate, cause of my ADHD, but anytime I’m cleaning I get so hyper focused I can’t stop.

I find cleaning a bit of a struggle, but tidying does this for me!

I do what I call "zen tidying", where I pick up something that's out of place, take it to the room it needs to go to and put it where it belongs.

Then I look for another thing that's out of place at the new location, pick it up, and take it to where it should be. Then I just keep chaining until the house looks like less of a disaster, lol.

I'm really bad at tidying in categories (ALL the rubbish then ALL the dishes, then ALL the dirty laundry, etc) because my ADHD kicks in whenever I notice a different 'kind' of thing out of place or another chore that needs doing, so I inevitably get derailed, lol.

So I decided to just go with it, and it actually works surprisingly well for me!

Once I get into "the zone" I can keep doing it for ages, and I find it oddly calming.

I did a course on mindfulness a while back, but I never remember to be deliberately mindful. That's effectively what you're doing when you get into the zone, though - your brain stops whirling and chattering and pinging all over the place, and you're just focusing on what you're actually doing.
