Today's writing hack is about facing your writing fear. ie: write the thing that scares you!

It's often the thing that scares you, that you don't think you're good enough to write, that is the very thing you should tackle. Pushing through the challenge is what makes us a better writer, and sometimes that project is The One!

I had a dream about you the other night. You were helping me cleaning my book shelf. How sweet of you.

*UNHEALTHY* *RELATIONSHIP* is my most fearsome idea that I still haven't conquered, but I'm now thinking about it. I hope this doesn't put me in danger😭😂

So true! My skill set isn’t up to the richness and complexity of my story, and it’s truly daunting. So now I’ve decided to write and speak and learn as I go, thanks for the video and great voice!!

2 years? Try 30! I started a writing project back in my late teens and nibbled at it, off an on, for the next thirty years (guess what? I'm not young!). When I unexpectedly retired five years ago, I wrote a practice novel, what I now call my 'accidental novel' and my 'exercise in the End Page' which ended up being MY debut novel (also unexpected). Since then, I have written two short 'practice' novellas (also just to test whether I could), of which one is being published sometime this year and NOW, finally, I am fully focused on completing that work I began all those years ago. I now realize, looking at it, that it is MY super-project and that what felt TOO BIG for me then is well within my reach now. I hear you. Facing the fear and doing it anyway!
Thank you, and keep up the great work!

I had this issue for so long... I thought I had to wait before writing my current project because I wasn't good enough and I needed to wait until I was better. But I realised that I'd potentially never think i was good enough so i should do it now because it's important, special and something I want to share

I started smiling when you started singing the "Face Your Fears" song from CEG. Paula was my favorite character! 😄
Also, thank you for the motivation!

I've been binge watching you for the past 2 days and I'm so happy you're here. You've actually inspired me and for the first time I have an idea that I'm really excited for and actually planning out. You've helped me get through a lot of brain storming and I really appreciate it. Thank you so much!
I also suggested your book to my library.

When you first said "face your fears" i immedaitely started singing it in my head. It blew my mind when you started singing it like 10 seconds later. Crazy ex-girlfriend is my absolute favorite show!

Hi, I just found your channel this week and I'm working my way through this playlist. I've been listening to it while I drive. That was a really nice singing.

I needed to hear this <3 I have this idea I'm really excited for, but it revolves around a sport I know next to nothing about. Right now I'm having to learn about this thing in order to write my story - which terrifies me, because I've always just kind of made stuff up and never looked into anything I've written about. Research?? I don't even know her.

But yeah, basically, in order to write this book I have to learn everything there is to know about competitive ice-skating and I am SO SCARED but this video was super encouraging so thank you :D

Yes! I have been doing this with each of my novels. I was afraid to write a main character as a male because I don't know what it's like to be a man or inside a man's head- I conquered that in my collection of short stories. I knew my stories were too one dimension because there was only one main plot and no sub-plots, so I added that element into my last novel. With each book I have tried to identify my weakness and correct for it (all while telling a compelling story). This is great advice!

I’m late to the party, but I just wanna say this: watching this video changed my perspective on a story that I want to write, The Story that I want to write. It’s a work of fanfiction, actually, and it’s an AU, and it’s about two girls who fall in love in the 50s and it’s angsty and sad and heartbreaking and beautiful and it’s my perfect book, but I’ve been waiting to write it and I decided, upon watching this video now, that I might as well. And so I will. Thank you, you’re a great help<3

This could be applied to all sorts of things in life, not just writing. Challenging yourself and doing things you might be afraid of is how you grow as a person.

I love your channel - such awesome and varied advice for authors starting out. You are my go-to lunch break viewing if I'm writing! I loved this one too - inspired me to stop procrastinating on a project I think is too big for me. Thanks ... please keep this up!

The project that scares me the most is a middle grade fantasy book about dragons that explores that kids do feel the injustices of the world. Am also a pantser so that last part might change lol. I'm currently writing it (I'm on chapter 2) so thanks so much for this video!!! Perfect timing!

I love this video! I’m frequently terrified by what I’m writing (and the process in general), so these are some good things to keep in mind. ❤️

This is exactly what I need 😭😭😭😭 I thought that I should give up on my WIP because I find it hard to write. You're right, I should face this challenge and just start writing it. Hope this will lead to a better condition

Hi Alexa
My writing fear is that if I write a middle -grade novel, I won't be able to write other novels that are more adult or in other genres. I don't want to be tied down to a genre or style, while I know this thought is idle, it has really put a block on my writing. I also just wanted to say thank you for all your writing advice, you have really helped me.
