For light workload laptops like this, could you add an encoder test? Ideally a simple video edit with one or two tracks of 4K phone footage, mostly just cuts and then encode. No pro camera codecs or complex animations. Or if that's too much work, then a simple handbrake HW transcode would also do the trick.

I recently purchased the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 14ILL10 with a UC5 228V Ultra Core 5 processor for €999. My version does not have a touchscreen or a 2.8K display, and it comes with 512GB of storage. So far, it has been an excellent machine for my needs.

The battery life is impressive, it operates silently, the screen is bright, and it has sufficient power for my usage, which includes entertainment and light gaming.

Initially, I was considering buying a model with an Ultra Core 7 processor, but I found it to be too expensive for my needs.

Instead of investing in the Ultra Core 7 model with 16GB of RAM, I thought that having the Ultra Core 5 model with 32GB of RAM would be a better choice in the long run, and I do not regret my choice at all.

My suspicion is that the difference in cache size is more significant than you might imagine. With the Ultra 7 having a 50% larger cache. Main RAM is soooo much slower than cache, the Ultra 5 will have to do a lot more RAM accessing (consuming energy so generating heat) and because every task takes longer the CPU consumes power for longer and therefore heats up more. Then the extra heat causes it to throttle more which further slows it down. I think the cache sizes are one of the most important differentiators.

Can you please compare Lunar Lake and Arrow Lake. I'm really confused which to go for. I understand Arrow Lake has better performance while Lunar Lake has better battery life but not sure which is a better balanced processor. Which is good for medium high task loads like python programming. Also, how does the ultra 5 225h and ultra 7 255h compare.

An ideal video will be 225h vs 226v vs 255h vs 256v.

I went with your recommendation on the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Aura Edition, but trying to purchase accessories is a bit difficult. Best Buy’s page says USB 4.0 and Lenovo’s page says “Thunderbolt” but doesn’t say what spec.

If you ever want to continue expanding the scope of videos/website content to cover, accessories that get us the most out of our purchase would be a godsend!

I bought a Lenovo Ideapad 14” Slim with a Ryzen 7 8845HS last week. Got a great deal on it, much cheaper than models with the new Intel cpus. In Cinebench 2024 I got 100/824.
Go for the old AMDs if you can find a good deal imo.
