Simple and elegant. The same trick we use for squaring numbers ending with 5, like 75. 7x8=56, tack on 25 (5x5), 5625. We also can square the first part and then add it on. So 155 squared which is 15x16 is the same as 15 squared plus 15 or 240 25. 185 sq becomes (18x18+18) put 25. We need to work out that part somehow if we don't already know it. 20 sq=400, so 19 sq = 400-20-19=361. 18 sq= 361-19-18=324. At least it works. 18 sq is also 9 sq x 2 sq (much simpler) So the answer would be 34225
