His self esteem, he broke his morality, took Jane, got his other girlfriend killed and then to top it off after all these things Jesse still defended Walter and Walter didn’t even have the decency to be kind to him. He beat a dog already down just to make sure he stayed down. Walter did not suffer nearly as much as he should have

Jesse captured someone who is totally messed up or broken in some way but even with all his criminality and bad behavior was still a hurt kid who really wanted a friend.

Imagine being so deprived of any kind of intimacy to ask your middle-aged criminal partner if he wanted to ride ko-karts not only because you have literally nobody else to ask but because you felt some semblance of a connection. In all your genuine fuckery, you just wanted to feel the happiness of a kid who knew he was loved.

You can see all of it in this scene, but especially the end as he stares, possibly realizing how lonely he is, and possibly pathetic for asking such a thing in this situation.

All jesse needed was a friend. Someone to talk to, hangout, or just distract him. It was at this point he knew that and was making the effort to. I felt bad for him. That’s when he attached himself towards Mike because he saw him as some form of role model.
