Patagonia Fungi Safari

Chile has made mycological history – the first country to have fungi recognised in legislation as important as the other two “F”s - fauna and flora. The woman behind the campaign is Giuliana Furci, Chili’s first woman mycologist.

Giuliana invited Stephen Axford and Catherine Marciniak from Planet Fungi to join her and some of the world’s leading fungi scientists on a fungi field trip in the remote forests of Patagonia.

There are few better places in the world to study mushrooms than this ""fungi hotspot"" in Chile and no-one better to explore it with than the global champion of fungi.

Just watched an amazing piece from the BBC on the rainforest of the Congo. A trip there would be incredible for fungi

You should come back to chile and photograph the lichen from the Valparaiso region and the coquimbo region, they are gorgeous

The film Fantastic Fungi blew my mind and ever since, I have been reading and watching everything fungi. I hope to participate in foraging field trips soon. I've always loved to eat mushrooms, but now am trying lots of different kinds. And am taking Stamets7 and drinking some delicious mushroom based teas. Probably the 2 most important changes I've noticed are more energy, to the point where I stopped drinking coffee, and better moods, especially during this pandemic. But I also just enjoy learning about the inter relationships between fungi and the rest of life on our gorgeous planet.

Three questions: 1. WHAT makes them illuminate?
2. WHAT is the functional reason for them to illuminate
3 I gather that mushrooms use carbon as fuel so WHY can't we harness them to get rid of our excess carbon in our atmosphere by thinking out of the box?

I hate the mycologist in the Indiana Jones hat. Strong Professor DeArmond vibe.
