I'm 70 now, and photography became my hobby during my teenage years. During 50 years of my life, my cameras had no image stabilization at all, not even auto focus.. How could I take thousands of sharp photos during these years? Of course, image stabilization is handy but not the end of photography if you don't have it.

I own the original Z50 and I bought it as a travel and "take everywhere" camera. I didn't expect it but I fell in love with this little camera. It is a small but very capable camera with excellent image quality. By the way, It is very much possible to charge the battery in camera with the Z50. I personally see no reason why I should upgrade to the mark II version. The original camera is still very capable. And it is smaller and lighter, another plus for the Z50. I compared A3 printed images of my D850 and the Z50: I can't see a difference. And the Viltrox 20mm AIR lens is a match made in heaven!

Purchased mine from yourselves with z180-600 to replace D7500 & Sigma 150-600, loving it and definitely see an improvement in photos. Used mainly for wildlife and eye detection is amazing.
Also purchased z28-400 from yourselves last week as walkabout lens but not had chance to try it out yet, hopefully tomorrow 👍
Would I recommend it ? Yes, definitely 👍

I bought one. My plan is to use it whenever I go light (cycling/hiking), and particularly when I fly for vacation. 12-24 PZ, 18-140mm VR DX lenses + a couple of very light primes…including Viltrox Air offerings. Around town it is my FX Z or F cameras, for sure.

I am a happy Z50II owner and user. I bought the camera primarily to take videos of dogs, which it does very well. The animal detection auto foucs of both dogs and people is very good and recommended. Also it is light and small, and thus easy to just take for a walk.

Nice camera and feature set for the money. I didn’t really expect IBIS at its price point but I think Nikon could have put in a more modern 24MP sensor with faster readout. Other than that not too much to complain about.

Just bought the Z50 II as a walk about alternative to my Z8 tank. Very pleased with it since it has some on the new features thanks to the Expeed chip. Thanks for great reviews from Vancouver, CA (Never a state of the Trump OS!)

Thank you for this video! Well done. I am glad to see the two of you together, as you make a fantastic team. One Question, how do you know if a lens has VR or not? Is there someplace that you can find this easily?

…or if you have a z7ii that you love for most photography types, but are sick of crappy autofocus for wildlife shooting. I have just got one to take advantage of the exspeed 7 focusing and bird af. I think is an awesome little camera.

I picked it up as an additional cropped sensor option to my full frame bodies. I really like it and SmallRig has a base plate that makes it so your pinky isn’t hanging off the bottom. Definitely not a legit D500 option as this is not a robust camera but it does have great AF and great FPS. Especially for an “entry” level body.

The Z8 in crop mode is a D500. Only reason people want a z500 is that they believe it will be cheaper than Z8 which a pro body won’t be. No one will buy a z500 for same price and less functionality of a Z8. It just doesn’t make sense.

I don't get the title "Z50 MK II V2"? Mark 2 Version 2? Or is that the official name? I am wondering because Nikon normally has pretty straight up easy names. Unlike Lumix for example which have totally effd up names with numbers and letters.

I bought the Z50ii mainly because of its size and weight and that it has Bird AF which my Z6iii still doesn't which I think is strange. And the extra reach is also a benefit. It pairs well with the 28/2, 8, 180-600, 28-400 for travel and even my old AF-i 300/2, 8 for low light (on a tripod because of lack of VR). So I am very happy. But the D500 was more robust and came with better battery.

I liked the z50 for it’s size and weight, but the Z50II is much better. I think Nikon missed the market by not giving it IBIS and a 26mp sensor and charged more. They should have competed with the Fujifilm X-S20 not be the low price leader. I don’t think a more up market DX is coming from Nikon so I bought the Z50 II anyways. Look at Canon and Fuji, there is a market for higher end APS-C cameras. System size and weight matters to some of us more than sensor size. Just saying it has to be less expensive than a Z5 isn’t real in this market any more. As is I pair my Z50 II with my Zf for when I need IBIS/Low light performance. I own a Canon r7 and a Fujifilm X-H2S. Both higher performance, but also a little higher weight. I still would rather use the Z50II

It's a no for me. Still holding onto my D500 and waiting for a Z replacement for it.

I am looking for something that most won't be interested in - I just want a small-ish travel camera where I can use my Z lenses for street photography and occasional birding when traveling. The Zf is a bit large and obtrusive, as is the Z6III. Unfortunately, the Z50II has the flip screen but my street style is to use the touch screen about 50%. I may snag a used original Z50 for my use case.

I would like to have the Z50 II ... as my daily camera. I always take my Z6III with me to work ... even when I don't have any planned photo/video assignment that day. I do it because somedays there is this person or that thing or that place that needs to be photographed ... And it it is my job to do it. For those jobs the Z50II would be just fine. If I had that one I would like to have the 12-28 PZ zoom. And also carry the 40mm 2.0 with me. That would be enough for most of the spontaneous jobs. I could even do a video job.

Z50II was probably launched by Nikon to clear off the huge stockpile of the 20.9MP sensor sourced from Sony for it's erstwhile D500 body... Yes, Z50II is a good body with it's modern technology, hence it's usage wise is one step ahead of the D500.. But it can never replace the build quality of iconic D500!!! Had Nikon thought of using the same sensor in a more robust magnesium alloy body and came up with say a Z90/80 type of body with dual card slots, ENEL15c battery, probably people might have accepted it... Alas, the competition is waiting on the sidelines to give Nikon a run for it's money by raising the benchmark for the APSc bodies by using 33/45 MP sensors. Now the ball is in Nikon's court as to how they meet this challenge!!! Lastly, as a face saver, Nikon has no option but to release a sturdy magnesium alloy body with dual card slots CFExpress SD, ENEL 15c battery, 33/45MP APSc sensor, Expeed 7 processor to reverse the competition putting pressure on those waiting on the sidelines viz Sony, Canon, Fuji etc etc.
