This Makeup Is HOW OLD? | Expired Makeup On Store Shelves

I recently purchased a mascara in store that was so old I couldn't even use it. So that made me wonder how much expired stuff is sitting on the shelves! I focused on grocery store makeup in this video, but it can happen anywhere so definitely check products before you buy!

this reminds me of the note at the end of most of Jen Luvs Reviews videos where she mentions these very expired foundations still on the shelves at a specific store. yikes. thanks for the resources to check the expiration date!

I worked at Walgreens for over a year and I was a beauty consultant. I would always unpackage makeup and put new stuff out but some products didn't sell so they were never restocked. All the reps have done at the store was check for dust. I would be so grossed out by how dirty some products would be but we're just told to dust off dust. Products that were never bought since I worked there, it's a huge problem.

Thank you so much for this video! Your video prompted me to check the dates of my unopened makeup and mascaras. I threw away a few items. Then, I remembered to check the makeup I was currently using just in case. The Too Faced better than sex waterproof masacara I had acquired within the last 6 months (from Sephora no less) was manufactured in 2011!!! I could not believe it. I have only used it twice last week (because it had been raining and I wanted to use waterproof mascara) and although it felt a bit thick, I thought it was just because it was the formula. Since I had never used it, I didn’t know any different. Needless to say, I threw it away immediately. I will always check the manufacturer lot on check cosmetics from now on, no matter where I buy makeup. Thank you for your video and sharing the info!!!

I worked at a very old CVS back in the day and I swear the same makeup stayed on the shelf the entire time I worked there. 15 years to be exact 🤦🏻‍♀️

Beauty News just did a video over the weekend about this too. And another youtuber did a lil while back now. Places to really look out for is discount places like TJ Maxx and Marshalls. Some of it can already be expired sadly. I'm glad you noticed this. I have noticed how dusty makeup can get at the grocery market!

Personally, I wouldn’t buy makeup at the grocery store, but that’s just me.

This is so important to know! I work at a Big Lots, and one night when I was working, my manager had me ticketing some cosmetics. I didn't think much about it at the time but now I'm thinking brands like Loreal, Covergirl, and Maybelline do wholesale. All of our stuff comes on a truck about twice a week and it is hit or miss if the items get on the shelves right away. But I feel like companies should put labels or writing on the boxes of products that it needs to be pushed first, that this batch was made on "blank" date and when it should be pulled (but the pull info is tricky since the boxes get tossed and its hard to remember what's going without logging it in some way). If they don't give these directions to stores like Dollar Tree, Big Lots, Safeway, etc then they won't know to look out for them. Like you said, they should have reps come in maybe twice a month just to check expiration, stock, and more. These companies are big enough and are around in a lot of places they should make people better aware!

I did once find an old and possibly expired product at Wal-Mart. It was Rimmel lasting finish foundation. It was in the old up to 16 hour wear foundation instead of the newer version.

Thank you for doing this! I always wondered if anyone bought any of the makeup inside grocery stores. They’re always priced much higher than drugstore so I think that’s why people don’t buy from there. And I’ve always wondered about expiration dates and how long make up is good for.

Thank you for making this video. Very informative I never knew that there was an app that you could use to check the expiration dates on makeup.

This is crazy! I need to do this next time. Four years! and they haven’t replaced it. It’s unacceptable. Walmart makeup section has changed a lot.

Wow the makeup you checked are seriously old :O I just checked the maybelline and Rimmel stuff I got from my local Australian supermarket and they are still within the 1 year mark.

BeautyNews did a ‘how old is your makeup’ video last week and it was very fun to watch :)

Whoa! Time to check my stuff! Thanks so much for this! You should do a video about counterfeit make up! It's so bad for your health.
