Real socialism vs Real Capitalism

Has real socialism ever been tried? How about real capitalism? What have been the results around the world and in history when we applied these socio-economic ideas?

Actually as capitalism has progressed, what you tend to find is that, although the mean wealth in a region tends to increase, large groups of people find it very hard to progress financially, even across generations, as wealth is centralized under the rich or corporations and people that don't have enough wealth to start with are even more downtrodden. The reality is that capitalism is self contradictory as having both meritocracy and the unrestricted ability to own private property are often mutually exclusive.
